thanks for all your help, i really appreciate it, i trashed ubuntu and installed pclinuxos 2007 and i am now proud to say i am running linux in conjuction with my adapter as i am writing this. i can already tell from 10 mins of uptime from this os that it is superior to ubuntu. all i have now is to see how well it is compatible with my other hardware. Thanks a bunch.

you're welcome; don't forget to sort out the repositories and install what you need plus apply any updates.

repositories? and by updates you mean through the package manager right? just right click everything and set it to install?

    ADD:

ok another thing, will red hat linux drivers work with pclinuxos 2007 and if not will alien work, or is that just to maqke them work with ubuntu? i downloaded a driver for my ati x300 graphics card and on ati's website it just said linux, no distro. i download it and it is a .run file, how do i use this?

yeah, just use Synaptic, setup some repositories (bit of trial and error as not all of them work), then hit 'reload' the see what needs installing/updating..
