Welcome back, Aland, haven't seen you posting lately..Hi Laboy... I have been working like a dog. I would not recommend to anyone to flash firmware until they know exactly what you are doing. Do some research. You can permanently damage your drive if you don't follow instructions.
The instructions are on the website where the firmware is right? Is it anything like flashing bios? Done it once, messed it up once :-(. I think i have the idea though.
Aeveatch: I would recommend you flash with the official NEC v3.04 firmware and leave it for a while, that way you won't void your warranty. Later on if all goes well and you have reviewed more thoroughly the modified firmware, then you can decide whether or not you want to change. NEC v3.04 firmware give detailed instructions on how to flash. All instructions give a warning or risk involved. So heed...
Well, i RMA'd the drive anyways. I figured since they would let me i might as well do it, this way i can be sure that i have a working piece of hardware (maybe). Thanks a ton for the help, i hope this works.
Just came across this thread as I was searching for info on my newly bought NEC 3520A. Like one of the posters I too flashed mine with the 3.04 firmware release but one that was patched to remove the ripping speed limit. I just tried ripping a copied dvd and it finished up at 16.2X and took 5 minutes and 5 seconds Cool, I'm loving it :->
It was - it seems much slower on the original dual layer disks. Those ones usually rip at 3x and sometimes up to 6.5x but it seems to vary for some reason.
