What's the difference between the BenQ models? I would like the newest and best one. I don't really care about price but if these burners are really good and cheap than I guess that's just a plus. I will be using this burner mostly for my DLs. I really like my old style Single layer TDK for my SLs. Also I use Verbatim DVD-R for SLs and Verbatim DVD+R for DL. So do I actually want to burn the SLs at a higher speed? Like around 8x? I've been doing the SLs at 2x and have had no problems. What speed should I do on the DLs? I can only do 2.4x or 4x. I'll probley keep the DLs slower at the 2.4x. Will it in anyway actually hurt my quality by burning the SLs at 2x if from what you say they are made to be burn a little faster? Thanks for all the help guys. I don't come here often but when I have a question I always come right here and get a prompt response. Oh yah also for programs I use AnyDVD and Nero.
The BenQ DW1650 differs from the DW1655 only when it comes to the DW1655's ability to use Lightscribe. I think that's the only main difference. They read/write at the same speeds. Also these drives like Verbs on the +R format. I've been burning mine at 8x and forget about the -R format, these drives can Booktype your +Rs to DVD-ROM. Real nice drives, only $50 or so at NewEgg.com
Damn I loved my memosux burner lasted all of 4 months. My nec plextor 716 and lite on still perform just bought a cheap samsung [noisy but cheap]My beng had problems but my Plextors still my favorite. Really looking hard at the Plextor 760,butwaiting to hear the verdict on it. My 2 cents Chris
Hmm... I don't use lightscribe at all. Is there a difference in price between the 2? Also I only make 1:1 copies. Is there really a difference between using +R and -R when simply copying discs. I noticed that all my players like -R better than +R so I made thw switch a while ago. Maybe I'll have to make the switch back.
Your players like the -R format because those are more compatible with most of the standalone players out there. With these BenQ drives, you can Booktype the +R format to DVD-ROM and be pretty much compatible will all the players out there.
Only if you are bitsetting to booktype DVD-ROM (which only DVD+Rs can do using the Benq 1650 we're recommending) are DVD+R better than -R in standalone players. When you booktype DVD-ROM, you're going to get slightly better compatibility than -R in standalone players. So, if you don't lightscribe, then yes, the 1650 will be perfect, only $41 at Newegg.com the last time I checked.
Lightscribe media runs about a buck apiece when on sale. I don't believe they make Dl lightscribe discs yet? These benqs highly favor the dash. I ditched that format a long time ago. Now I use the dash Ty-g02 shiny inkjet printables only because of the lower price than those same discs in the plus format. Stand alone players do have more trouble recognizing my dash backups off of my 4 benqs. Those plus format backups booktyped to dvd-rom have very few issues on stand alone players. Only the plus format can be booktyped using capable writers. Plextor/Liteon/LG/Some sony/Ricoh are just a few. I've got 3 other burners that don't booktype, but stand alones prefer their dash backup. Players can do some weird stuff. They can even pick out issues with different burners. They may like the dash backups off your memorex burner, but slap in a Benq dash backup and they may not. New burner, then you'll have to find the correct format that suits it. Players will have more trouble playing benq dash backups than they will the booktyped backups.
... at the risk of being overly repetitive .. the only people who don't think that BenQ is the best burner have never owned one
