    I don't think that the amount of RAM limits the size of the ISO file, I always rip then burn DL disks using DVD Decrypter to rip to an ISO file, then burn with either Nero or IMGBurn, I have an ancient Dell 1.9 GHz processor running XP with 1.0 Gig of ram, yet I burn 8.4 Mbyte movie ISO files with no issues or conflicts. I know it seems as if we are comparing apples to oranges here perhaps, but I think that we can rule out a limit to ISO size based on available RAM.

    I've been following this thread for a while and have become completely stumped, and amazed by all the gurus who have passed thru this thread and yet to have solved it.
    I'm wondering if you ran a free system diagnostic program like Everest Free 2.20 and posted back all of the hardware/software on your system and someone's sharp eyes could pinpoint a problomatic conflict.

    I'm willing to try anything short of formatting. I mean I will if it comes to that, but I'd rather exhaust all options first. I think tomorrow I'm going to go out and buy a bigger external drive, because I've outgrown this 500G one. I saw one at Walmart for the same price as Newegg, believe it or not (actually a penny cheaper). That way I can do a full backup of everything and not have to worry about formatting. I've already backed up the essentials, but I'd rather have peace of mind knowing that everything is off this machine before I go tooling around.

    I don't believe there even is a 64 bit version of Nero. I own Nero 8 Ultimate Edition that I bought directly from Nero's website.

    I'm at work right now, but I may be able to pull a successful Ridata log from my computer at home.

    @killalot

    I don't know what all that has to do with his problem. I'm not trying to step on your toes either. He was burning fine with the programs he has - Nero 8 and Vista UE. The programs then have not changed to what they are today and yet he can't close a disc when he was able to then. Either the drive is now having trouble with all the discs except the Ridatas or in the last month a conflict has developed preventing closing the discs-but why not the Ridatas.

    @LilMikey
    What are you riping the dvds with-Fab,anydvd or what? Then what program in Nero do you use -Recode? Or do you use Shrink or something else and then burn with Nero. Are you dealing with ISO only? Can you burn a verb to completion using DVDFab for rip and shrink and burn or DVDFab and neroRecode and have the disc closed and play in standalone player?? I sure would love to see what a different SATA burner would do. Can you burn a -R disc?

    Actually for testing purposes, I've left it to just ISO's. This all started because last week I was trying to burn another copy of an ISO I have because I couldn't find a copy that I had previously burned. I have been trying that same ISO (that worked fine before) with all the brand discs I have (the ones I listed earlier). Then to make sure it wasn't that single ISO that was bad somehow (even though it burns on the Ridatas for whatever reason), I tried a few other ISOs. Some did work - all the ones that were under 3G or so in size, so that's why I mentioned it as possibly being a cause. I have not tried ripping any DVDs and burning them. Well I ripped a DVD the other day, but I did not burn it, only ripped it to DVD-9 on my hard drive so that I can play it over Media Center. I did that with FabPlatinum 5. I can try burning it to a DVD-5 using Fab tonight when I get home, though. I have not tried anything other than the ISO's aside from that, though, like I said.

    Such a strange issue. Here's the quick recap:

    All media has trouble burning large ISO's.
    All media seems to successfully burn smaller ISO's (sort of - few exceptions)
    Ridata's (8x only discs) are burning everything fine.

    Makes no damn sense! :p

    Okay, time for an update. I took files I had previously ripped off a full DVD disc and loaded them up into DVDFab Platinum 5. Chose DVD-5 and the burner as the destination - and bam! Worked. Not a single error message. Tried the DVD on my Xbox 360 (that's my DVD player) and it works fine. I also tried it in the computer that burned it, but I figured that would work regardless.

    So that's some new information to work on - DVD Fab burned a disc (Verbatim) just fine.

    So we know the burner can do vts files and is probably working correctly. Now take the newly burned disc that plays and use imgBurn to create an ISO file and then try to burn that ISO with ImgBurn. Forget using Nero for now! That'll tell you if it can burn an ISO file that is not corrupted. The ISO files you have been trying to burn may have been corrupted somehow in their rips. I can't wait for results tomorrow.

    Well I'll pop it in and rip and ISO and reburn right now. I'm confused as to how this would determine if the ISO files are corrupt. They will burn on the Ridata's. Also I took one of those same "bad" ISO's and I was able to successfully burn it at work using a different brand burner on the TDK's. The same ISO on this burner with the TDK did not work, however.

    On a side note, what's a VTS file? :p Okay, going to rip and burn solely with ImgBurn now.

    So that worked! I ripped and burned the disc using just ImgBurn and there wasn't a single error!

    Okay, so how do we get Nero to work again? :p

    I wouldn't count your chickens before they've hatched, but it's a step closer to success. Now for my second test:

    I just finished burning one of the "bad" ISO's to a Ridata. We know the Ridata's work even though we can't explain why. The disc seemed to be fine, so I ripped an ISO from it using ImgBurn. Now what I'm going to do is try to burn it to a Verbatim using ImgBurn. That should be successful. If it's not, well then (I guess) the ISO was bad and it burned onto the Ridata bad as well - even though it burned successfully.

    However, if it works (which I think it will), then I will try another test and burn that same ISO ripped off the Ridata via ImgBurn and try and use Nero to burn the ISO to a Verbatim. If the first test works but the second fails, then we know for a fact that Nero is the culprit. If they both succeed, then we know that the ISO was the culprit (even though it burned on the Ridata). If both fail, well I still had more success with ImgBurn than Nero and need to test further.

    Okay for all of those still with us, it seems I have come to an impasse. Although as far as I can tell, the Ridata disc is fine and the ISO is fine, after the first part of the new tests, ImgBurn as given me a PMA Update failure. Here's the log (with my username edited out)
