@royceman5, Hi Most of the commercial DVDs I watch have a title menu with three or more choices, the movie, scene selection, special features, languages, etc. I like my menus to have a similar set of buttons and to be able to link them to what I want them to display. Here's a typical menu I would make with DVD-Lab: All I can do with Nero is get just one button in the title menu and then have it link to the chapters or scene selection menu.
QuikDraw you said you created DVDs wtih NERO 8, how? I tried but the DVDs won't play in a stand alone DVD player. They work fine on the PC. Is there a way to change the decoding from Mpeg4 to something that will play on a stand alone DVD player? By the way i'm using the Free DEMO version of NERO 8(8.1), I was using NERO7 with no problems. NEED HEEELPPPP?
@BigDadE, in the Nero 8 bundle you'll find a program called Recode, use this. You will also need a ripper. You can download the free trial version of AnyDVD from Slysoft.com. This program will start automatically. You will see a red fox head in your system tray, next to your clock. This program runs in the background allowing you to make a copy of your DVD. Please, note you may only make backup copies of commercial DVD's which you own! Let me know how things worked out. Good luck, and welcome to Afterdawn!
Also, are you running the latest version of firmware for use burner. http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/Home.aspx. Make sure the Nero software is removing all (RCE) protection. Regional Encoding Enhancement. Check to make sure your standalone DVD player supports the recording format your using, and supports both DVD+ and DVD-
Opps! Forget the part about Nero Recode removing the RCE, or RPC regions. ANYDVD (the ripper) does that automatically.
@QuikDraw the bundle I have includes "Nero Home" and "Nero SmartStart". I don't use them. I have DVD Shrink 3.2 to make back ups. All was well with Nero 7. When I watch video files with Nero 8 it says enjoy you trial period with Mpeg 4 decoding, is it even possible to change the decoding. Also I can't find the recode program where is it?
Nero 8 is similar to Nero 7 as Nero 7 is similar to Nero 6. I've updated within weeks of each new release. I like to let them get the initial bugs worked out before jumping in. Nero shouldn't really charge for new versions. Nero 8 is similar to a big update of Nero 7 with some added functions. Guess they have to do something to make more money on the software. The programs I was used to using with Nero 7 still work well, i.e. Recode, Nero Express, Nero Burning ROM, and Nero Vision. I'm still getting used to some of the added software. Often I only use it as I need it. I may go exploring, but so far it looks like another winner for Nero. For those not familiar, InCD is a batch writing program in Nero. It's a problem when doing DVD backups. You have to choose between the 2. InCD wasn't selected for installation and I sure didn't check it for my system.
Nero 7 has been great for me. Expecting the same or better, I paid $80 for Nero 8. Nero 8 takes 10 minutes to Add 4 mb to a DVD burn and longer to burn than Nero 7. Nero 8 "Add" progress indicators show different values. One says 60% and the other says 57%. The green progress megabyte "added" indicator does not show any value or turn green, ever, until I click on it several times. How can the user add when no progress is available??? Nero 8 "Add" window says "Open". It should say "Add", not Open. Uninstalled 8 and reinstalled Nero 7 Disappointed.
Wow, this is an old unsolved issue! Sorry to hear your still having problems with the new verion of Nero. I guess, you've already tried removing all the old Nero software before reinstalling your new version. At this point, I'd say you either have a bad copy of the Nero 8, or there is file corruption or driver conflicts. Try your Nero 8 CD on another PC? Is their any other burning software on the HDD, which may interfer with Nero's drivers? Such as, RecordNow, Roxie, etc. Never assume you have removed all traces of any software unless you have searched the HHD for any trace of it remaining. Left over old file fragments can interfer with a new installation.
