thats associated with external sharing where there is a lag on your broadband connection. This lag does not exist internal to your network. It is possible for TV provider to extend the ECMs challenging your system where the broadband lag could be a major issue. No such lag exists internal to your broadband network.

Also there are ways around the lag, but that is in current design. The current thought is to buffer signals for a short period which would mean that all receivers must have some level of memory available to buffer this lag

Relax, even the DM500 has memory space. Not much but we are talking about very little space. Just buffering milliseconds of information until the new rescan information becomes available. Easily availible in the /var/ directory. Wait until it happens. No crisis yet. This is kinda worst case so don't freak just yet. Lots of very intelligent people looking at this. As I said in an earlier post its all about the fun of it. The answer will be provided when needed. But do remember the internal broadband issue is not an issue and will not be an issue for some time. So be unworried about streaming internally in your home

Re: Is this box the answer re N3

This box includes access to a C/S server for N3 Ireland, not UK. I guess you can connect to any C/S server, but as the Irish server is included in the price, there is no point in getting one in the UK as you are paying for something that you cannot use.

BTW, some people do refer to C/S as the N3 hack.

I've moved this thread to the starview section.

hmm, I wonder how long that will work for.

Its ok as long as boxes are being sold to support the server but what happens once the market is saturated. Who's going to maintain the subscriptions ?

For Ireland, I think there's somwhere close to 20 transponders so thats likely to be 20 subs required. Plus, the NTL areas will likely still have different card info to the Chorus areas so that could be another 20 subs required.

Dunno what the price of a sub is in Ireland but lets say they average out at 50Euro each (A lot of the cards wont need to be full sub) so thats 40 * 50 = 2000Euro a month just to maintain the subs. If its done properly then you really should double up on cards to prevent certain forms of attack so that could potentially be 4000Euro a month

So, where's that money going to come from once box sales start to drop off ?

Why would anyone want to buy extra boxes when Upc do them for a €5.00 per room extra on a multiroom sub

do some looking around, and contact your supplier, they have all the answers, as they sell the equipment not after dawn.

You won't get any software releases from suppliers.

I contacted Slywonder and asked about Kryptview and was told they only sell their boxes as freeview and do not release any software that would enable people to watch Premium Channels.

The only place software was ever released was on public forums like this one.

This is the benefit of boxes that are open source built on a recognized operating system. Dreambox Multimedia claim the exact same thing. It is not Dreambox personnel who write emulators for the box. It is enthuasists who like a challenge and know how to write applications that can sit on top of the operating system that the box uses (Linux). And do consider that Linux has a huge target base and many developers as it is a free system to do your development on. It is not like the proprietary system of many other boxes where only a few folk have any working knowledge
