'Virgin Mary' toast fetches $28,000 The toast is not intended for consumption A decade-old toasted cheese sandwich said to bear an image of the Virgin Mary has sold on the eBay auction website for $28,000. An internet casino confirmed it had purchased the sandwich, saying it had become a "part of pop culture". Goldenpalace.com says it will take the sandwich on world tour before selling it and donating the money to charity. Diane Duyser, from Florida, says the sandwich has never gone mouldy since she made it 10 years ago. By the time the sandwich auction closed on Monday the sale had received over 1.7 million hits on the auction site. 'Mystical power' "We will definitely use the sandwich to raise money for charity, and we hope it will raise people's spirits as well," said Richard Rowe, the casino's CEO. "With the... thousands of search engine queries, it is obvious that this is something people want to know more about... and Golden Palace will help spread the word. "We believe that everyone should be able to see it and learn of its mystical power for themselves." Last week, Mrs Duyser told reporters the sandwich had brought her luck - including winnings of $70,000 at a casino near her Florida home. I must be missing something, it looks like a plain old grilled cheese to me. Not only that but its got a bit out of it, you don't even get the whole thing.
@arniebear, Now there is some guy from Montreal that is trading up a "red paperclip" in hopes for a home. He's up to a year's rent in Phoenix. Back on track.......Port Salut
Time for me to spring clean all my junk out and auction it off on ebay, considering there is a buyer for everything. Of course before I do this I will go worship at the shrine of the holy grilled cheese, so I can have a miracle and get lots and lots of bucks for my crap ebay items.
Well next time I brush my 135lb long haired shepherd, who is really arniebear, I gonna save his fur and that will be my first item. If they want more they can come back, eventually they can make several coats, blankets, chairs, sofas, etc. And all within a year, he really sheds. And he loves cheese
They used to stuff furniture with horsehair, so why not? I could save the feathers from my budgie and sell pillows, duvets for Barbie and Ken.
German buttercheese........yum, creamy melt in your mouth. Arniebear, Just recalled my son's friend who need extra money at Christmas. He fashioned wallets (bill-folds) out of duct tape and sold on Ebay. He did quite well. Next time I see him, I will have to ask him if he's still making them. They used to stuff toys with horsehair as well.
Thank you ireland, I will take a few of those mozzerella sticks, and some of that cheese spread on crackers. It is past my lunchtime
A "bill-fold"...I haven't heard that term in a while; my dad use to keep his atop the ice box which is where we kept the fromage. Port-Wine Cheese (there is such a thing, isn't there?)
Yes there is, it is cheddar with port wine running through it. Not exactly my favorite but very popular.
Hmmm....sounds kind of nasty. Something strange about the label of the container "Cold Pack Cheese Food"; sounds like its artificial or something like the cheese in the aerosol can. Didn't they once put horsehair in plaster?
@billy...he-he-he, I'm sure you don't remember an "ice box" either; you know, I'll bet I have stuff in my refrigerator older than you! That milk I bought in 1975 must be cheese by now ,,, stinky cheese at that!
LOL! So...whats a billfold, is it one of those things that you put around a wad of money notes to keep them together?
A bill-fold is a wallet that folds in half. You usually only put paper money in it. I like the kirsch flavored cheeses. Also, the little chocolates filled with liquors. Gerry1, is that with the round motor on top? LOL Sheesh, reminds me of this old washing machine we used in a place that we rented. Believe it or not, it was electric, had 3 huge plungers that went up and down, and rotated. On the side was a spinner( fit 1 pair of jeans and a few socks)to get the water out of the clothes. They leveled the house, and built a new one. I think it's buried somewhere under the new house. Just think of what that would fetch on ebay.
