thats the whole point of a system restore, to get rid of everything which means that if there is nothing left there is no problem anymore :)

Yeah but my system restore doesn't work correctly so I don't want to erase everything on my computer.

Could the cookies not working have something to do with certain web sites not showing up? It says their enabled but when I go on certain web sites it says they aren't so I don't know what program could be disabling them.

need to explore your host file to see if anythings affected What can sometimes happen is a rogue program (such as a virus) can block access to certain sites to prevent you from updating your program & removing the virus.

One way access is blocked is by editing a file called hosts. To check if the file has been edited go to Start > Run... and type notepad & press enter.

In the new window that opens, go to File > Open. In the File name: box type C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and click Open. The file should look exactly like it does below,

    Code:

    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. #
    # For example: #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com
    # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com
    # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost

If it doesn't look the same, remove any extra lines as appropriate. You should then be able to update your antivirus which I recommend you do straight away along with a full system scan.

    try this a see

I downloaded the program from my school computer and put it on my USB drive and just ran it on my computer. It fixed the host but the internet still isn't working with certain sites. Anything else you know that might work? Just please list all of my options so I can try all of them.

try http://www.bitdefender.com its an online virus scan it will delete and repair any viruses

only works with IE not firefox

Download WINPFIND.ZIP and extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind
in the C:\ folder. Inside c:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe.
Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched,
click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish.
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer
for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can
    take a while.
When it is done, it will show the results of the scan.
Click on the Copy to Clipboard button and then paste the contents of the log in your next post.

I'm very sorry for "stoling" your idea ;)

And yes, make sure that PeerGuardian's HTTP block is disabled and try again accessing web sites.

is the internet working when you are booting into safe mode with networking? that may be an idea on accesing important sites like those stated by -kemisti- and celticfc1.

just a little thought mr blaze, what i always do is have my hard disc partitioned so everything i have ever downloaded is backed up there so if i have to format my disc because of some problem like what youve got hey presto 5 years of work is not lost and mereley needs a few bits re installing.although i suppose it is made a bit easier with a 250 gig hard drive but its not too late to do it and lose nothing is it my friend?then format your disc and it may help with the banging your head against a wall problem
