Whenever I Have to Download Software, I go to the Library and use the Machines there. I get a Pen Drive Download the Software to it then run a virus check on it. Anyway you should have had Some type of virus protection on your comp to begin with and it should have caught an infection. It's hard to say how Two Like Program will interact. It's Like too many cooks in the Kitchen. I really don't think that was your Problem. I'm interested in what you finally decided to do.
@PCIdiot: If you don't mind a relative newbie from chiming in, here's another thought. I have been burning for about 2 years (487 movies), but I still consider my self a newbie. I have most of the free programs discussed earlier -- and, btw, you have been given excellent information, but I use AnyDVD & CloneDVD, but they aren't free. I just find them to be the easiest for me to use. You can try them for 21-days (www.slysoft.com) and they offer a discount for members of AfterDawn. I bought them a couple of years ago and they are constantly updated. I have a dvd-rom and a dvd burner in my desktop, so I burn them right after I rip them. It is a 3-4 step process using CloneDVD because I only burn the main title. It is a 1-click deal if you want to cpy the entire DVD. Both of my sons use the same programs. The younger son has a desktop, and he burns his the same way I do. The older son has a laptop (one burner for reading/writing), so he rips the movie to an external HDD using the ripper portion of AnyDVD (right click on red fox head), and uses CloneDVD to burn the movies at a later date. His way is more time consuming than my way, but it works for him. Didn't mean to be so long-winded. Just wanted to offer up another method of getting the job done. Good luck with your project.
ANYDVD is a good Program to have. Both it and CloneDVD have a 21 day Free Trial Period. After that you Must Buy it. AnyDVD may conflict with DVDFAB Plat. I Think Car.Mike Gave you the link to Slysoft. (No worries about Viruses at this Site) When you get your Comp Back from the Shop, Download those Two programs and Try them out.
much thanks to berryone, car.mike and tsquare43. while we try to figure out what the burner problem is, i am spending free time reading through the guides page and printed out the directions for the suggestions offered. the good news is there are no viruses. odd thing, the shop put in a dvd and it showed up on the driver and it played. i brought in a movie and it didn't show up in the drive or play. so, i'll rack up some bench time and no doubt they'll put in a new burner. btw the old one was a dvd-rom. end thoughts were that perhaps the firmware was the issue. **warning, the idiot is thinking** if i didn't dl the most current version of dvdfab decrypt, could that have overrode my original codes and caused the problem? PCIdiot
While you have the downtime, and you are doing some reading, might I suggest you look at the guides prepared by one of the AD members named bbmayo? (Can't seem to get a link to work). I used his guides and they are topnotch. Some other members here have also put together some excellent guides.
thanks again and yes, i am reading those guides. i believe someone put me in touch with them early on in this problem. had i known about this site earlier/before i started this project, i believe i wouldn't be where i am today. hindsight and all. as someone either mentioned here or in another post somewhere in the forum section, having several windows open to completely understand all that is being absorbed is crucial in order to do everything correctly. personally, i read better off a printed page than on screen and so the guides have been printed and the glossary page is opened for my understanding of terms.
fyi--picked up the "beast" this morning and the driver was beginning to fail. another new driver/warrenty et al ;-) downloaded the software suggested and i'm into my second movie. VERY EASY!!! HUGE THANK YOUS to all. Now, am I going to need to periodically update these downloads? Not so PCIdiot
If you got the AnyDVD and CloneDVD2, and you bought them and not in the 21-day trial, you will receive automatic updates via email. I got one the other day for AnyDVD, and actually just finished my 3rd update of the week abut 5 minutes ago.
IF you Downloaded Rit4me. No more updates will be coming, but it handles 99and44 one hundreds of the movies out there. Dvdfab HD decrypter Plat. will need up-dating (You Bought it so those will be free for Life) Shrink, No new up-dates. Dvd Decrypter, No new up-dates. I Don't see any need to purchase ANYDVD Unless you Have EXTRA money laying around. If you are only going to Back-up 25 movies, it would be a waste of money. But IS a Great Program. I'm Very happy that you are up and running again.
ha-ha, you'll be proud to know that i was able to get around a problem at 2am. new copy of aladdin run through dvddecrypt was saved to hdd but wouldn't read on dvdshrink--titles don't come up. anyway, opened up dvdplat and dvddecrypt and it was good to go! (patting self on back) thanks to the "education" i've received on here. now i have a dual layer writer but need to purchase some dvd-dl's, for the longer movies, i'm assuming that the programs will handle or do i need something special. from what i'm reading--i'm still a bit uncertain. not so PCIdiot
