Problems installing Xp Pro with SP3

Yeah,this motherboard has both a 4 pin and a 20 pin connector.My power supply is 500 watts and has both the 4 pin and connectors.my motherboard is made by PcChips and it is a K7 mother board,with a cpu combo amd 1800+.

 

Yeah, i have the 4 and 20 pin connector plugged in.I also tried the voltage switch on both settings,no luck.

 

I think it could be my power supply..I plugged my computer into an outlet,instead of plugging my 4 pin and 20 connector into my motherboard,i used a digital multimeter and a voltage detecter on the connectors,no juice what so ever..I have juice going into my PSU but not coming from my connecters..Is this a valid way to determine,if my power supply works? I'm just ready to take it to someone to look at it..I know i have everything hooked up right,except for the power switch and led indicators..As always,thanks for your continued support.

 

Go over the front panel connectors again carefully. A board of that type usually has a led on it somewhere which lights up when the "always on" 5v standby power is applied... though some don't.

How have you been doing..Ok,remember when i was having that problem with that motherboard,it wouldnt power up? Well it turns out that the motherboard was DOA,i had to send it back and get a refund..Anyway i purchase another motherboard on ebay:

I received it today and installed it..My computer powered up,however i do not get a picture. What i mean is,my monitor's power button blinks and does not come on. According to the online specs of the board,it has on board video and sound.. But when i read the instruction manual for this type model for the motherboard,it reads nothing of on board video..Do you think i need a video card as well?Thanks again for your help.

 

For a learning experience, I encourage you to continue working on this computer to get it up and running. From a practical standpoint, you might be better off buying a cheap used computer. You can find several refurbished systems at the following site, and it may be cheaper than you buying individual parts (RAM, PSU, Motherboard, etc...).

As for your video problem, check the BIOS to see if it mentions video anywhere. If the motherboard has a VGA port, then it probably has on-board video, but you may need to enable it in the BIOS.

 

Thats the problem,i cant even get into the bios..Seems like my monitor does not get a signal from the computer..And i even tried a video card too..No video whats so ever.

 

Does your computer beep when you first turn it on (beep code)? Assuming your motherboard has a speaker that works, you should get a beep code that will signal what the problem is. If it's only a video problem, then you should be able to plug in a USB device and get power (an optical mouse will light up). You could also try booting from a CD. You won't see what's happening, but if you CD ROM keeps going then you know that your computer is working.

The fact that you tried a video card and you still didn't get a display on the monitor makes me think that you have other issues. Of course, it could be that the video card isn't compatible with the motherboard (AGP, PCI). Different video cards have different specs that need to be met, but most of them are backward compatible.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS by unplugging the power supply and removing and reinstalling the CMOS battery? Since you bought the motherboard on Ebay, they may have used a different video card and thus disabled the on-board video in the BIOS. If you reset the BIOS the default will usually enable the on-board video. Other than that, I can't think of why you wouldn't have video except for bad hardware.

 

My computer does not beep when i boot it up..Perhaps the speaker is bad.My mouse is not usb but it is a optical and it does light up when plugged in.I tried the cmos battery,i been talking to ddp for awhile as well.I tried booting from the cd and the light stays on.Usually if it is reading it,it will blink.The one funny thing is,the lights on my keyboard does not light up,it is not usb as well.With all the time and money(mostly time)i put into this,i could have bought a cheap system,as i only want this,so my wife can use it,when mine is in use.Any more ideas?Thanks.

Sorry .. would post more but I'm swearing at acer right now for the most stupid retarded dumbass windows xp installation method I have ever in my whole life seen... and it's broken beyond repair.. so screwed up that it even corrupts another drive with xp installed in an attempt to boot the damn thing.

Not often I admit defeat on a project but this one goes back to the owner in disgust... total disgust at acer and their moronic mind bending stupidity.

Strip your motherboard of everything except the cpu.. power it up.. any beeps or still stony silence? Could be mobo.. could be cpu.. the board may or may not do something even without a cpu.. older ones used to screech.

Why don't you just buy a working p3 500 from a junk shop for £10 and stick linux on it... that will do for a web browser and letter writer.

 

Yeah,i would like atleast 1Ghz because i have a wireless pci card and some of them require 500 or 600Mhz to work.

 

Ok,i have a question.I`m formatting this laptop for a friend of mine.It currently has Vista on it.He doesnt like it and wants xp pro on it..I usually install xp with a clean install(booting from cd),However this time, i do boot from cd and it loads the files.Now when it comes to the part where it asks to install windows,it does not recognized the hard drive.however my bios does..How can i load windows,when xp does not recognize my hard drive?Thanks in advance.
