This guide seems to work fine. Then I burn the movie and attempt to play it on my PS2. The disc skips, freezes and then ultimately I get an error message saying it's unreadable. I've reripped it and it has happened again. It's the Office Season 2 and this happens mostly on the deleted scenes.

I'm using an NEC 16X DVD Burner Model ND-3550A, the media is Sony DVD-R 16X, the burning program is Nero 6.6.0.13

Can someone help me solve this problem? And is there a way to verify that the files are free of errors before I waste a disc burning them?

a couple things you might try...

    1. make sure your running the latest firmware on the drive ,check here

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

2.update your nero to 6.6.0.18 thats the best verison of nero

3.DON'T burn above 8x speed go 4x or 6x and see if that helps

4.try using better media (Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim) the Sony DVD-R is ok media but not great if you can find the Sony media thats "Made In Japan" that will code out as Taiyo Yuden so look for it next time.

also make sure your burning on a clean machine (doing a disc cleanup and defragging often) without other programs running while your transcoding/burning

Thanks for your help. I spent the day following the advice you gave. Unforunately even after all of that, the discs still skip and freeze.

then try different media. if your going to buy it at a store just get Verbatim

or its possible your burner is going bad

I think you might be right about the burner going bad. I put a cd in it today with some files I needed, but it wasn't reading it. I went into My Computer to manually access and explore the drive. My Computer froze up. Then my actual computer froze up and I had to manually reboot it. Now it's not reading the dvd burner at all.

afterdawn and blivetNC: It's been about a year since I did a complete reformat. I did a defrag using PerfectDisk 7.0 a couple of months ago. I use TuneUp Utilities 2006 to keep my disk and registry clean. I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 with virus definitions current as of 6:36pm Eastern time today. I will run HijackThis and post a log as advised in the linked thread. I really appreciate the help. I'm close to calling it quits on backing up on my movies. :(

Download and unzip FixVTS to a folder, in my case it is is called C:\Rip Program. Then open you RipIt4Me program and click on the box and point it toward your folder.

@newbies or those that keep having issue with RipIt4Me,

Make sure you have the latest FixVTS, PgcEdit and plugin.

**NOTE: RipIt4Me 1.5.3.0 is available now. Newbies or those needed should update due to the heavy and nasty protections from Sony and Macrovision.

Very nice and useful guide here buddy (arnie). Been monitoring this thread/guide since you started, have always wanted to help out newbies, but seems like you got everything under control here. And now I just want to contribute and say; "you've done a great job."

Not sure I understand why it is essential to have PgcEdit and plugin updated if you are having issues with RipIt4Me...

    @alkohol

Thanks for the support, I can always use it. There are many knowledgable members on this site and it is great to have there help. And it is nice when you feel like you can contribute something to the community, now matter how small :)

FixVTS should be the latest which is Verstion 1.60, but the PGCEdit and plugin is not necessary. I do not run PGCEdit and plugin just RipIt4Me, which keeps getting better and better. Have not had a movie it cannot handle. If settings are correct, RipIt4Me should do its job.

No I don't have any issues (never had) with RipIt4Me. Was simply trying to drop some notes for newbies or those that are having issues only.

Hmmmm.... I guess it's the "cognac" that's messing up my brain while typing. I meant, for those that are having troubles, make sure to have the latest from RipIt4Me and FixVTS.

As for PgcEdit & plugin, was thinking about something else to edit the movie. It's definitely the cognac, LOL.

    Hi arniebear and all:
I spent the last 2 days trying to copy a DVD. The last few times I've tried I've been unsuccessful. Just after downloading the software from you links I was able to copy a couple of them with no problem but lots of time has lapsed since then. I should have done it more often so I could remember the process. I seem to get more and more confused about all of this. I did find out that the wedding DVD from my son's wedding that I tried to copy were damaged, which is why I wasn't able to copy those. I guess it had something to do with leaving them in the motor home after returning from evacuating in 2005.
I just deleted the programs so I can download them again because I kept getting notices telling me that some file could not be found. It was RipIt something or other. I didn't know what it was all about so thought it would be easier to just start over from the beginning.
Before I dowload the programs again do you have any suggestions of anything I should do before then? I'm going to try to do things one step at a time as I followed your instructions before. This time I printed all of that out so I don't have to keep going back to it.
I don't get to work on this stuff often being 63 years old, self employed, dealing with a large family of 5 adult children, 10 and 3/4 grandkids and a husband with cancer. I seem to always be doing favors for everyone else and my interest come last. That's called 'Motherhood' I guess. Anyway, I just thought I'd ask if there is anything I should know before downloading the programs again. Sometimes that doesn't go as well as when they're downloaded the first time.
I appreciate the help you all provide here.
    Linda

Hi, just dl the latest versions of RipIt4Me and FixVTS. DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are no longer updated so the versions available are the latest for them.

Extract the RipIt4Me and FixVTS programs. Open RipIt4Me choose preferences from the logs/settings tab, and make sure your path points to the FixVTS exe file, which is in the program. Mine reads C:/Rip Prog/FixVTS. If your settings are correct you can just proceed, using the 1 Click method.

You can choose to check the create VTS folder box in the program and this will create a VTS folder for you makes it easier to find if you choose movie only instead of full DVD. I use movie only regularly because I do not want the rest.
