DTT is Terresterial and has nothing to do with cable. Essentially uses antenna as demonstrated in the hilarious video posted ("And thats the end of it") :D

This box conforms to the Irish DTT specifications that were outlined about a year ago after the trials and is capable of all of the fancy interactive stuff planned for Irish DTT. Best to install DTT channels first (Which will include the likes of RTE News as well as the "Test Spaces" (If broadcasting) reserved for other channels like RTE 3) then connect satellite to get the others - that way you'll have all the decent Irish and English channels before the plethora of rubbish ones.

On a similar note, If you have this box (or a box like it), you do NOT need an Mpeg-4 specific TV. The Mpeg-4 TV's are basically like UK TV's with built in freeview. It just eliminates the need for a digibox and gets the basics directly into the TV but, if you'd be after stuff like the Sports & movies or just the extra channels that aren't on Freesat like Dave, Comedy central, Discovery and the like, you're probably better off just getting a box and at the moment, the MVision is currently king. (And no, I dont work for them).

Bear in mind too that Irish DTT will only have the basics free - They will be doing a package similar to the basic NTL Digital for €9.99 with Sports & movies to be add on packages (That was the plan last year anyway - haven't checked recently as the company that were going with it pulled out last year). I'm sure DTT will get going someday - they still have two years before the EU deadline :S

Ultimately, with this box, you will have all the Irish channels on DTT and all the non premium English one's like BBCs, ITVs, C4, C5, More 4, E4, Film 4 etc... As for Interactive stuff on Freesat, as I said earlier, many of these can be tuned in as seperate channels anyway (I have mine labled BBC Sport 1, BBC Sport 2 etc...) :D

As for LAN input, no joy there i'm afraid. Recommend the Dreambox DM800 PVR if you are thinking what I think you're thinking ;)

Mickah, NightsJOD, Great stuff I am educated really appreciate your time on this. I'm ordering the Mvision from a store in Kildare Got a really great price 180 delivered (PM me for voucher code anyone buying).

Prob just stick with the ACER TV we have until I spot a ridiculous bargain thanks to the combo doing all the tuning.

And I will not be looking for any Illegal content so this box will serve me well.

    Thanks all who contributed.

I've read through this thread but I'm a bit confused still.
I'm in Waterford and have NTL Digital. I'd like to be able to access the BBC red button, theres some great stuff available with the F1 season coming up.

So is there a box I can buy that'll let me access the interactive stuff through NTL Digital ?

you can get the interactive channels as free channels on satelite. they are called stream1, stream2 upto stream6 i think. all you need is a cheapo fta receiver and sat dish
