nope, i'm in Missouri XD auslander is just a german/english word that describes me quite well. first saw it on an episode of the X-Files ("Ich bin ein Ausländer.") and ,well, here i am
nope, but i would like to go there one day. meloves the anthro kangaroos, and seeing a real one close up would make my decade
I run Windows Home XP SP2, download every update, verify all my software through Microsoft, eat all my vegetables, say my prayers and take my vitamins. Life is good. This message was paid for by the committee of Bill Gates for President.
It's good to see there are several people running more than 1 OS, and it's fantastic too see such enthusiasm for linux
Since I like to play games, my main box has XP Pro SP2 on it, but I have several other computers here. I have one I play around with that currently is running Free BSD 5.4 which I prefer over Linux since it is real Unix variant, not a Unix-like OS like Linux. I am thinking of trying the new YellowTAB Zeta on that box since I was always a BeOS fan. My XP Pro box has VMWare running on it so I can pretty much run any OS I want on it within a Virtual Machine as well, I even installed OS2 Warp a few months ago just to see how well I remembered how to use and configure it. I still have 2 old PCs with DOS 6.22 I keep for DOS gaming as well.
sorry to be off topic, but a question about winME , i hear several bad reviews on that OS and reports that constantly crashes and hangs, is this true ddp? i have a copy and never have used it, im interested in maybe running a dual boot on my main compy.
The only thing you need to know about Windows ME is the following: Control...Alt...Delete And I hope you like the color blue, cause you will be seeing it a lot. ME was my first OS, and it was a hate/hate relationship. If you want to play around with it, find an old crap computer to put it on. Don't put it on your main computer. (XP Pro SP 2 with all the fixings)
my secondary computer with me on doesn't like 98se or xp from scratch but might try upgrading to xp on it by doing the xp upgrade. this way i'll have a computer with xp for diagnostic work with other computers so the main computer doesn't get screwed up. also will come in handy when somebody has a problem on the forums.
Windows XP Pro at home as i like 'simple is, simple does'. Also at home have used virtually everything from early versions of DOS, Windows 3.1 and up., also FreeBSD and Mandrake Linux. but now it's just XP cus i just want to turn PC on and do stuff, not turn PC and spend hours tweaking/fixing things. At work it's XP Pro and Mandrake Linux 10.1 on my desk, with Solaris 8 & 9 all over the shop. i lose interest with the faffing that goes with Linux, far too much time is spent faffing instead of using. As opposed to my favourite - Solaris, which just works. there's always faffing to do, but in such a stable and established OS it's fairly straightforward. Have used a few other Linux distros/live cd's etc, but i prefer Mandrake (now known as Mandriva). So these days my Mandrake box is used as a work tool, ie for accessing all our Unix boxes, as opposed to constantly tweaking the OS instead of actually using it
I have to agree Creaky, that's why I prefer BSD over Linux. We also run a Solaris shop and I get tired of all the tweaking that has to be done to Linux, where Solaris and BSD just require minimal tweaking out of the box. I remember seeing a quote one time that sums up the design philosophy differences between Linux and BSD. It said something like: "BSD is what you get when you have a group of Unix hackers design an OS, Linux is what you get when you have a group of PC hackers design an OS." I find that to be true. BSD seems more integrated and connected, where Linux seems like a patchwork of programs stitched together without the consistency of a Unix OS.
i have xp home at home and xp pro at work, but the work puter is much slower then my home puter, till we update all our pc's with newer ones.
And in all my enthusiasm i forgot to add i usually run Debian as well, but i had to re-install after some crappy virus had killed my hd, so now i'm busy setting up debian again...
well, lethal, you know it has to be true. you can't have work faster then home. what you you have to look forward to coming home then. btw, i like the new animated sigs better then the mug !
