you might need a software update, which version are you using?

The 2.60 is an official Starview file and will only work on genuine Starview receivers. It is the clone boxes being hit by this only.

If you have a genuine Starview box you will be fine. Advice to all with clone boxes, do not update!

The problem is that no one seems to be able to point out which boxes are the fakes and which are geniune. I know that some are very obviously fakes but others look the same as the origionals.

Them pics prove nothing! if you read the full thread you will see that the pics are actually mixed up. Ive got one of the small boxes that the site says are fake but I know 100% thats its not a copy, the boxes I get are imported from north korea. You can tell youve got copy when the gtrom loader will only let you upgrade the firmware once maybe twice, after that it either fails or screws the box up altogether. this is due to the copies having cheap unreliable components including ROM chips. Ive upgraded / downgraded my box several times with no problems! That satdownloads site is completely wrong

NO its rights , the fake clone is a copy of the first genartion starview (SMALL BOX) , as the orignal makers do not make the smaller version anymore & only do the larger receivers now, (there stopped making the smaller boxes a few months ago)

lol so why have I got a small box that can handle as many upgrades as i can throw at it? its definently not a 1st gen box as ive only had it a few weeks. its from a batch that was imported about 6-8 weeks ago. the date on the pcb is oct 2006

even the clones can be flashed as many times as it wants, as long as you dont use the firmware 260ee, as its seems to be the 260ee firmware that is killing the clone boxes

i have 2 1st gen box in my house from about a year now , flashed it with 260ee file the day it cameout, still working fine,

also got a few larger boxes for a few m8's & flashed them a few times, & also put the 260ee file on them the day it cameout , all still working fine,

it does not matter what receiver you have , there can all go faulty , without you putting on firmware file on,

as i now somebody who got a dead box when he got it, would not bootup, but get it replaced without any trouble

Looks like you are all gonna disagree with each other anyway. 2.60e_E is an official release by the Starview manufacturer and it works on all official boxes. Mine are all working fine and have since they were loaded the day it was released and I know many others that are ok, all genuine boxes. If you think you may have a clone box and 2.60 is still working then you are lucky. Hope it holds out for you. You don't have to believe me, don't care either way, just telling it as it is.

If you mean a SKY dish then no, it's a cable box. You can get Sky movies and sports on it though.

You'll probably have heard that the latest software version 2.60 has been designed to destroy the fake units. If you are running 2.57 or 2.59 then do NOT upgrade your software until you have confirmed that you own a genuine Starview.

    Here's how to tell :

    Real Box's

    First generation Starview =
smaller box with same back as the copy

    Second generation Starview =
    larger box with new back

    Fake box =
smaller box in new packaging with different remote

    See Pictures Below
