black lead from maplins and yes desk top .the lead is serial lead rs232

 

it has to be the null modem serial cable
if this is the cable your using then its possable that the flash rom is broke on the starview box , although rare it happens in one in a hundred ...
make sure its not the wrong cable first as the data and the serial look the same

 

well your set up sounds ok giggles,you shouldnt really need to alter any of the settings on the gtrom downloader,basically leave everything as it is,select the firmware you wish to flash your box with via the bin file box on the downloader also check that the app file only box is checked and hit download. i take it you have a good firmware file and its not corrupt,maybe try downloading the firmware again and retrying.also try another gtrom,its certainly worth a try.

btw in reply to M.R. i dont work 4 WS at all i am just 1 persin with 1bx like the rest of u, real 1 thk gd! +not from WS either. But was just sick of the likes of MR and the sockshops sellinh u all the fakes pretwnding its real. they cud sell the real 1's so why dont they?

cos they get more dosh from the fakes that are not as well made and they dont make software updates they jus pretend its real. now i read they been gettin peoples emails of other site collectimng them?? why i wonder??

is your serial port enabled in BIOS?

 

no.you shouldnt need to add hardware it should work straight off,it looks as if tezzer was right,its either a duff cable or a faulty box,it may be worth swapping your cable at maplins and try again.

 

take jobbers advice . he is right its cable or box problem

gtrom should work with no adjustment at all to it

and will work if the box and cable is ok

 

I found if you seperate the boxs...and minimise the feeds i.e. just broadband and starview..u get all the channels.

got it sorted up and running i got the wrong cable got the RS232 NEEDED a cable called Serial Lead {null modem} THANKS TO EVERY ONE FOR HELPING ME XXXXXXXXXX
