Hi, yes i will try the cable input but i didnt really think that mattered. It is a true cable signal installed by nt hell and i describe it has a catv coaxial cable crimped. It is a clone box from the pics i have seen. Yes it is working with manual key inputs but i never bought the sv with this intention i liked the fact i could update the firmware every so often not like i am currently. Thanks.
OK well to me it sounds like the null modem cable you have is actually a straight through serial cable. Yes they do look exactly the same as both are DB9F to DB9F cables. The difference with a null modem cable is pin 2 goes to pin 3 and therefore allows for transmit and receive between your sv and pc. You can test the cable if you have a multimeter.
If im reaidng this right or worng but you dont need the cable (N*L) plugged into the SV when updating
Hi, Yes i do have a multi at work will take cable tomorrow and test what should i be looking for when you say 2 goes to 3 which 2 ?? might sound silly to you! i bought this null serial from maplin has a big N printed in black im guessing this means null, could be wrong though. went in person to maplins and specifically asked for serial null female 9 pin it has it written on box, but i am still willing to test cable if you can give me some simple instructions. Here
According to your link, that is the correct cable. The big N actually is the manufactuers initial N for Nikkai. If you want to still test it just hold up both sides of the cable to face you. You will see numbers on the pins, stick one probe in pin 2 on one side of the cable and into pin 3 on the other. As I said your link look correct but no harm in checking.
Hi, I have checked continuity on my serial null modem cable pins 2-3 yes it is fine so maybe the only problems lefts are sv box? or my comm port? I have checked in device manager win xp pro and it says that everything is fine. If i remember correctly i had a printer given me sometime ago and it wouldn't recognise this. I thought that maybe it was the old printer. However my new combo printer connects via usb so i had no problems but have never needed to use the rs232 port. Is there any tests i can perform that would clarify that my port is actually working fine other than relying on xp ? I would also like to repeat myself and say that your support has been like a breath of fresh air, i am not one to use forums but this has give my a lot more encouragement to use this forum more often. Thank you again
Go to this link http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3450 This will tell you how to preform a serial loopback test to check your serial port.
Hi, Excellent its looks like the comm port is at fault from the loop test. Tried several times and nothing come back ha, thanks i need a new serial card now!. Thanks guys Will keep you posted soon as a recieve for the benefits of others.
just wondering what they really do. if i watch premium channels could n** detect that and charge extra on the bill.
