(Doohickey stares at his monitor in disbelief)...
Alright Pete, dang it... you gots some 'splainin to do...

Quote 1: "I tell people to "Google" to find Nero 5.5 for about $10.00...Now I recommend DVD Shrink and Decrypter as a pair for the great and especially reduced price of FREE !!!"

Oh ya do, do ya? (snatchin away the foot pillow) Do you always wait to tell them that *after* they spend the 69.99!!! I coulda used that little tidbit, yanno, lol.
And another thing by the way,

Quote 2: "(Silly guy, thinkin' he could just type in anything and have it work)"

I did not think that!(hoppin up and down) Pete, I'm starting to suspect you're misinterpreting my statements on purpose just to get my goat. If ya are...it's workin! lol. If not, once again, the point I was trying to make was that maybe I had recieved a defective download somehow because:
    A) The supposed 30 day free trial period was ending after just one launching of the program, and
    B) the Ok button stayed greyed out even after some random numbers were entered. I found this odd. I have purchased lots of other software in the past, and the *usual* way to register it would be to enter the product key number, hit ok, and then watch as it connects with some server somewhere to check the validity of the number. Apparently this process has now evolved to where the downloaded program itself can recognize a proper string of numbers entered before allowing you to click OK. Or, maybe this isn't that new, I don't know, but it's the first time I've seen it work that way. So, I just wanted to know if what I was experiencing was normal or not, before sending them money and then having trouble unlocking the program. It's been over two weeks now since I contacted the "Nero Support Team" on this and still no reply. Would you or any other reasonable person be quick to send money for their product with that kind of response record? I think not. Hence my asking here. After assurance from you (and michigan) that the registration would go off without a hitch, I sent off the money and was happy to report that everything worked out fine, just as you said it would. This forum is great! ;)

    and finally,

Quote 3: "Hey there Doo-Buddy, Now it's your turn, stop back when you're free and help someone else - they'll appreciate it and it will make you feel better" :)

Well of course I'll be back silly, where did ya think I was goin? In fact, I already have a new question I need help with and I fully expect you to help me with it to redeem yourself for not tellin me about the Google/Nero thing (lol)
As for helping others, there isn't much knowledge I can contribute yet I'm afraid, being such a newbie myself. Over time that will change and I'll be glad to help out whenever I can. ;)
But ya know what?...despite all the kooky twists and turns this thread has taken, there really is alot of good information and advice here, from yourself and several other members, scattered around from top to bottom that other newbie readers can benefit from. I'll settle for that, for now. ;)
Talk to ya soon Pete and y'all in a new thread.
    your friend,
    Doohicky ;)

    Heya Pete! How's it goin,
I can't talk much right now, I'm right in the middle of my second dvd attempt and it's been a wild ride. Nowhere near as smooth as the first attempt and I have no idea why. First I tried the shrink/decrypter way and got an error box with 3 minutes left in the encoding process. So then I tried the shrink/nero method..except this time I used shrinks re-author mode. Forget about that other problem I mentioned earlier (for now, lol). I got a quick question... should nero launch automatically after shrink is done when you're in re-author mode? Cause it didn't for me. I had to load the files manually into nero.. thank God for the guides here...anyway, its burning now, 6 minutes to go. Not sure what I'll have when it's done...I'll let ya know in a few. .....Talk to ya soon,
    Doohicky ;)

UUMMMM,... shower, and.. uumm.. no soap, watching guy's in shower.. OH.. MY.. GOD! What has this thread come to.

Nero doesn't launch automatically, you have to open NERO then select your movie and burn. When you use the shrink and decrypter method, decrypter's burn program launches automatically.

I know I will get a little flak for posting this but here I go. You don’t need to buy the ultra version Nero if you don’t use its extra features. The OEM 6X version (Nero express, not the standard burning rom) works just fine with DVD Shrink. In fact it has most of the common features of the full blown version such as overburning, drag and drop video files into Video_Ts and lots more and it can be purchased for $9.95 on the web or at Ebay. I have other burning software that meets my needs such as Alcohol 120%, but for basic CD and DVD burning the Express version has all that I need.

    Hey geestar,
Yes, Nero does too launch automatically with Shrink3.1.7b5... if you have it enabled under shrinks preferences AND you have your burner set as the target. I found the reason it didn't launch for me last night. I had my hard drive set as the target instead of my burner. ;)

    Hey Sophocles,
Yes, thats all been said earlier in this thread. ;)

Ok guys...this thread has gotten wayyy too long. I don't want to get scolded so I'll see ya's soon in a new thread, k? Thanks for all the help!

Currently I use Shrink 3.1.7.6 and burnatonce. If you're just burning DVD videos, how does burnatonce compare to Nero? Is there really any difference?

The earlier discussions as I read them only included the full Nero Version and not the Express version. In another thread there were discussions as to whether or not the OEM Express scaled down version worked with DVD Shrink. I merely wanted to point out that it does and that for most people it is all that they will need. Why spend $69.95 if $9.95 will do, no harm was intended.

Hi there pegglor, much has passed since this thread was active we have free burners (DVD Decrypter) for DVD Shrink. One of our members also found a site with an excellent price for Nero 6.
    http://www.eagletronics.com/
How can you not get Nero and all of it's programs for $35.00 ?

Anyway, Welcome to our little Club, we're glad to have you join us.

    Cheers,

    Pete

lol...what's this old thread doing back on page 1 (grin)...ahhh, brings back such fond memories ;)

    heya Pete! ...heya everybody!,

hiya pegglor, as Pete said..welcome to the club ;)
I checked out that link..pretty good price, but it looks like to me that you will only get Nero Express to burn with and not Nero Burning Rom (6) which is really the 'guts' of most full version Nero software.
I mention this only because I have read several times here at A.D. not to use Nero Express. Not sure why, I've never tried it myself. Maybe someone will read this and explain further.
But then, Sophacles, (heya Soph ;), says he uses Express with no problems (see his above post)... so maybe Express will work okay for ya, I dunno. The other thing tho, is that OEM version doesn't include Nero Recode 2, a great program that allows you to re-author and retain a working menu, which Shrink will not (alas).

On the other hand, the link that Scuba Pete reposted above..(originally supplied by ProfesrPC, thanks Prof ;)... will get you the real deal...Nero 6 Ultra
Edition (full version, not OEM), for 35 bucks. I saw the same box at Circuit City marked at $99.00 the other day. I paid twice that for the download version and I don't get the factory disk, but it's working great for me so I'm not complaining too awful bad, lol.
Nope..I gotta agree with Pete , you just can't beat Nero 6 Ultra for 35.00..if anyone out there is shopping. (see Petes link above)
    Cheers,
    Doohickey ;)

Sure thing Pete, here ya go ;)...

I based that statement on the list of features included with the OEM package from http://www.clickcooldeals.com/nero6.htm which reads as follows:

Let yourself be taken by surprise by this classic's new features – you will be delighted.

    Nero StartSmart
    Nero eXpress 6
    InCD4
    Nero Vision eXpress 2-se
    Nero ShowTime
    Nero Media Player
    Nero ToolKit
    Nero Cover Designer

It is possible I suppose, that they mean those features [bold]in addition to[/bold] Nero Burning Rom 6, in which case I am wrong in my assumption, but the price of 8.95 leaves me a little skeptical, if ya know what I mean. That package sounds exactly like the one [bold]Sophacles[/bold] refers to in his above post.

To strengthen that opinion, here is the features list from http://www.eagletronics.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=ANERO6ULTRA ...

    INCLUDES

    Nero Start Smart

    Nero Burning Rom 6

    Nero Express 6

    NeroVision Express 2

    Nero Back it up

    Nero Showtime

    Nero SoundTrax

    Nero Wave Editor 2

    Nero Cover Designer

    Nero Mix

    Nero Toolkit

    Nero ImageDrive

    Nero Recode

    InCD 4

Notice the difference? At least they don't leave you guessing...Nero Burning Rom 6 is on the list.

But as I said, I could be wrong...the only way to know for sure is to hear back from [bold]pegglor[/bold] once his/(her?) package arrives. If the OEM package does include Nero Burning Rom 6, that is a fantastic price! They also offer two other OEM disks, the third one includes Nero Recode, for $20.00... so that could be a great deal too...if Nero Burning Rom 6 is in there also.

And.. lets not forget Sophacles post either. He states that the scaled back OEM version with Nero Express is working fine for him ...with Shrink anyway. But all the guides I've read pertain to using Nero Burning Rom, not Nero Express, so I have no idea how he's doing it...unless shrink is launching Express automatically for the burn only. Maybe Sophacles can elaborate on that a little for us. ;)

Anyway Pete..thats the way I *saw* it when I visited both sites. Hope this was helpful ;)

[bold]Attention pegglor[/bold]...if you read this, please stop back and set the record straight for all of us, okay? ;)
    Talk to ya's later on,
    Doo ;)
