great thread!!! but i'm stillhaving problems. trying to back up xbox game using dvd decrypter. after going to mode> iso> read, all is fine. but when i go to mode> iso> write, thats where the problems begin. I pick the folder in which the iso file has been sent for sourse but decrypter tells me that i should have picked the MDS.FILE and picks that file for me automatically (i think this is theproblem). Then when i try to the MDS.FILE to a blank DVD, i get a long message:

    I/O ERROR
    DEVICE[1:1:0}PLEXTOR DVDR PX-716 A 1.04(E:) (ATA)

    SCSI STATUS 0X02
    INTERPRETATION: CHECK CONDITION

what am i doing wrong???????? any input would greatly be appreciated. THX

Wait, are you trying to backup an already copied game or are you trying to copy an original?

Whoa, stop right there. Go back to the first page, and re-read the [bold]entire[/bold] tutorial. You're never going to backup original games the way you're trying to do it.

Quad, thanks for the quick replies. What I was trying to do was: extract ISO files from an original xbox game like you show in your thread. All I want to do is create back up for my original games and for the near future, so the kids can play in the truck while I'm driving. Thanks

Sorry..All you will get using those is the video files off the first layer...no game....Team PI are the only people who know how to dump an original game disk in a pc (maybe others but I only ever heard of Pi doing it) and they are using a modified drive and unreleased firmware....Even they can't make a working backup that works in an un-modded box...media checks,,grrrrrr,, Have a look at softmodding that xbox maybe..

Game backups are easy when you know how, FTP from xbox drive...Xiso files with something like CloneXB/ extractXiso (by huge..works ok, avoid the yursoft version) (It MUST be an Xiso maker..magic iso etc are useless)...burn image with nero/alcohol...done...

It's just that the xbox software is put on the disk about face..outside in, so the pc can't see it...then again the prices on modchips has fallen recently..about £25 UK for an Xecuter3.

    www.baldbouncer.co.uk

    ...
about the cheapest modchip seller on the planet, install guides..clear tutorials..

..Now that's what I call a bargain, less than a new game!!

For pc games I found Gamejack 4 to be about the best, emulates copy protection and such and a good hunt will find a free copy somewhere on the torrents, look for one with a keygen...

    OK here goes....

Connect the xbox to your pc (x-over rj45 cable)

Boot Flash fxp or whatever (even windows)

    Put disk in xbox

    Open D:\ in xbox window

transfer files to pc (folder..call it something like xbox-transfer)

Convert files to X-ISO...I use CloneXB, |google 4 it| (send it somewhere you can find it!)

Burn iso to disk with nero/alcohol 120% (disk image or saved project)

    Done....

Hi Quad..found this link of drives/disks compatability

Quadratic, I need your help. Or anyone else who can help me out. Me and my mate have gone through a million tutorials/guides over the last 24hrs trying to figure out to backup xbox games and we're just banging our heads against a brick wall!

I successfully connected the xbox to the computer using WS_FTP Pro. Ive copied the game across to my PC Hard drive. Ive then created an ISO of the game folder using Qwix. I then tried to burn that ISO onto a DVD using Nero. (Ive also tried Alcohol 120).

Ive tried both + and - DVD's. Ive tried using different brands, I originally had some real cheap ones but went and bought a few verbatim to try those as well.

In Nero, Ive fiddled with the settings based on a guide I found which recommended lowest burning speed and finalising the disc. Im thinking there might be other settings I need to change within either the burning software or Qwix. If anyone could lay these out in full detail, that would be wonderful.

Ive tried different games and they dont read at all in the xbox. Its properly modded etc

Are there any tips I can get to help me run these discs?? Even the smallest things, Im totally out of ideas. Thanks

I only see two problems that could preventing you from playing games:

    1) Your xbox dvd-rom drive might be old and could be possibly "dying." Does it play original games? If it has problems playing originals it will more than likely have problems playing backups.

    2) Try clearing your cache files. Go to E:/Cache and clear any files in there, and then to go X, Y, and Z folders and clear any files in there as well.

    Just a thought..based on a mistake I made when I first tried..

You have made an Xiso of the contents of the game folder..not the whole folder (i.e. the folder you ftp-d into) you know what I'm getting at.you should have a file list something like

    something (folder)
    something (folder)
    media (folder)
    something
    something
    default.xbe

your list will look something like this, or maybe just a heap of files

not just a folder with the name of the game

.I don't use qwix (too much like hard work) so... have I explained what I'm trying to get across??

    Brain not working well today..............

@Quadratic.. I have no problem playing original games at all, havent come across any that havent worked yet so I'll try what you suggested. Just out of curiousity, how would that change anything? Im alright with PC's, but not Xbox stuff! Also, I dont appear to have an x, y & z drive.

@janrocks.. when I ftp'd a folder across, I'll use shaolin monks as an example, I copied all the contents into a folder i named shaolin monks. In that folder on my PC, i have the following,

    classic (folder)
    english (folder)
    front (folder)
    default.bak
    default.xbe
    demo_screen
    about 8x gamedata.wa'x' files (x = d-k)
    jarvos.xbe

So when I made the xiso, i did it for the folder 'shaolin monks' rather than anything inside that folder which i mentioned above. is that the right way to do it??

Cache files are storage buffers that are used to help games load faster. Eliminating these may solve the problem. When you FTP to your xbox, what drives do you see? You should see: C, D, E, F, X, Y, and Z.

Also, have you tried another xISO program besides qwix?
