I remembered that you said you weren't going to overclock, but abuzar is still right from a sensible point of view. Both of the X48 boards are costing you money for features you aren't going to use, but then who said a PC build is sensible. The X48 chipsets only real major benefit is 16X16 crossfire.

Those who are recommending Gigabyte, probably own Gigabyte boards, and those who recommend Asus no doubt have Asus boards. In truth the lower priced Gigabyte board is the more sensible purchase but sensible aside of the two boards of equal price comes down in favor of the Asus Rampage.

now it dont get any better than that right there. keep on rockin young man rick!!!!!!

inshort Rick, if you got the cash and dont mind spending it. you cant go wrong with either of the b2 boards(top end Gigabyte or ASUS)
if the Gigabyte has the features you want and need thats the one to get. either one with that Q9450 you will have a screaming Rig.

once you get it built you should try thr OC. as Russ pointed out a small OC will help out even more with the encodeing times alot....
i heard you in what you said about your not going to OC, but i said the same thing once i got my Rig built about 3 days afterwards i was learning how to OC.

    EDIT:
ive had the big red machine up and running now for about a hour now. ive mad a couple little blocks about a inch and half tall and set my case on it to let some extra air under it with the better fan on the bottom sucking in cool air. i now have the 2 140mm aerocool streamliners on top sucking out the hot air. the sidepanel is on now and my temps are down about 5 degrees. from previous setups ive had tried.
right now in realtemp my core temps are both 39c yesterday at this time they were 44c.

here is everest. it is lower to about 3-5degrees lower
    [IMG]

these are with only 5 fans running instead of 7(not counting the cpu fan)

one more thing I forgot to mention that I like about asus is that they will report more temps and voltages. if you are not going to OC then this is no biggie and should play no part in your decision. I'm going to OC and want/need to know these additional temps and voltages.

and you say you can control your fan speed in your bios? i see you have 7 fans running at a good speed. i can only have 4 fans on my mobo.only have 3 hooked up to it now. but i cnat control them. either set at auto and the mobo adjust them or set to rn at full speed.

For ref, the Southbridge will run hotter than the northbridge often because the heatsink is miniscule for it on most boards (or non-existant)

    rob,

yes I can control all 6 of my case fans through the mobo/bios. there's actually 7 fan headers on the mobo that can be controlled in the bios and 1 more that can't for a total of 8 fan headers on the mobo. I'm only using 6. non of those include the cpu fan/header which can obviously be controlled in the bios which is fairly std on most mobos anymore.

I don't like to plug any fans into molex plugs coming from the P/S. makes for more wires and mess.

8 headers is certainly impressive, but why leave one you can't control? Why do that? Motherboards confuse me sometimes...

looks like you can only control 3 case fans in the bios via Q-fan.

here's mine. I lied to ya there are 7 (not 8) fan headers, 6 (not 7) of which can be controlled in the bios.

I don't have a CPU fan, the chipset fan is connected to the CPU fan control.
