with your fsb at 333 you should be able to run your memory at 999mhz or 333 using a multiplier of 3 depending on how your bios is. the spec speed for that memory is 1000mhz at 5-5-5-15 timings. that would be only 1mhz under spec. BTW don't mix memory speeds. if you do all your memory will only run as fast as the slower speed memory.
Thats what it is running at, by 500 mhz I meant 1000 because its dual data rate or something so it gets doubled I think. Maybe I'm wrong, so any insight into that would help. EDIT: Oh and I changed the timings, they are 5-5-5-15. I read in a review that this memory is very good performing and can run at even tighter timings, I haven't tried that yet. This Is the review.
yeah, I figured that's what you meant but wanted to be sure you weren't running it at only 1/2 it's rated speed. if you decide to add another gig of ram, be certain it is the same speed and preferably the same make. also in order to keep your memory in dual channel you need to add in sets of two matched sticks (2x512, 2x1024, etc).
So about the AS 5, would spreading it around the whole CPU be fine? My temps just wont go down from mid 50s, and this is in a house that is air conditioned 24/7.
your problem is not with the AS5, the problem is the oem cpu hsf. I highly recommend replacing it with an aftermarket performance cpu hsf (zalman CNPS9500, zalman CNPS9700, arctic freezer 7 pro, thermalright ultra extreme, etc) especially if you intend to OC. my cpu is OC'ed 50% and rarely gets over 60 C. it idles around 34 - 35 C during the summer months and 32 - 33 C during the winter months.
Yeah I know, but I thought it would at least idle around the forties with the stock one. The temps are still above 50 with no overclock.
very seldom. oem hsf's are junk. you've invested in all those other quality components, why skimp on a good cpu hsf. you're going to have to get an aftermarket cpu hsf if you want your cpu temp in the forties or lower even at idle.
Alright then whats a good after market cooler that doesn't cost too much. Thing is that I work for my dad but he doesn't pay me, my parents paid for my PC though. I might be able to convince them to buy me a cooler but it cant cost too much.
abuzar1, If one of the ones you mentioned before is too expensive then see what you can find in an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro or a Zalman 9500. Both are better than average and usually priced reasonably. Try bumping your memory settings to 5-4-4-12 and see what happens. I have mine set at those settings, thanks to DocTY and it runs great. You have better memory than mine. Mine's only PC6400 so you might be able to run at 4-4-4-12. I can, but it's wasn't stable and I didn't want to go too hard on the memory voltage! It won't hurt to try though! Every little bit helps! The stock cooler is dump. Even at stock it idles in the high forties. No matter what you do with Arctic silver, you need a proper cooler.
Hey Sam, I just discovered why the stock cooler worked so well on Gina's 4300! It was the cooler for the D-940! The presler is a known heater, so that makes sense! The 4300 cooler has never been out of the box! I was cleaning out my bottom drawer of my desk and I noticed one box was heavier than the other, so I guess the one for the presler has more copper in it! That would help to explain the low 30s temps at 3.0GHz! I never even noticed as I just grabbed one and installed it! LOL!! Learn something new, everyday! Clock On, theone :>)
Ahhh right, jammy! In fact, an E4300 at 3.2Ghz probably makes very little more heat than a D940 at 3.2Ghz!
sammorris, Actually, it makes a bit less! The D-940 is twice the wattage of the E4300. 65w vs 130w. It runs mid to high 30s in the front room without A/C at stock 3.2GHz. From what I've read from various hardware forums, the E4300 pulls less than that at 3.2GHz. Somewhere between 120-125 watts! I've tried running the specs through every CPU wattage calculator I can find, and they all seem to agree with that wattage! Gina's computer improved it's temps after she installed the Freezer 7 Pro by a couple of degrees over the D-940 cooler that I set it up with. My guess is that if she made the same fan mods I did, hers would idle a bit cooler too. The fan control on her MB doesn't control the fan as well as the one on the DS3, so I don't know if she could get it as quiet! It probably wouldn't be worth the expense for her anyway! She's happy with low 30s, although she used to complain when the MB temp went over 37C! LOL!! Clock On, theone :>)
At what speed? I'm running mine at 2.2V, is this too high? I don't think so because the Crucial website says it should be running at 2.2V. This wont have any adverse effects will it?
800mhz, 4-4-4-12, desynced to a Front-side bus of 1334mhz. That's one thing this motherboard does do right.
Not many boards can do it, but the P5N-E can. Shame the rest of it is so crummy, like having massively reduced USB bandwidth! O)
