    Thought you guys should appreciate the facepalm worthiness of this, even though it's not really to do with gaming as such, anywho, this guy andy420 wants to code a game;

    Ahh dear...

One of my mate's dads is friends with a guy on the team that wrote Windows 7, so he's gunna see if he can get a license slipped my way :p (gotta love these friend of a friend thingies)

    EDIT:

Oh, and i did a deal with the devil and got a 360 at the weekend. One morning i'm gunna come downstairs and find the living room wrecked 'cos the PS3 and the 360 got into a brawl during the night...

im sure the RROD is dead now with the jasperunits, same with the PS3 and the 65nm 80GB units.

It was relatively rare with falcon to get BSODs, I can't really speak for YLODs as I haven't studied them, but they also seem heat-related.

Haha, whoops! I meant RRODs. Still, there was an awesome shot of an xbox 360 stand, presumably with a PC meant to be running a video on the screen instead of the actual xbox gameplay, with a BSOD on it somewhere. I can't find it though... :(

I actually caught one of these at stansted on my way out earlier this month (not this specific one, but this is what it looked like)

trouble is, it was one of those ones that blinks for an instant then the PC restarts. A BIOS, XP splash logo and auto-login later, the screen went blank "listen for announcements" for a moment and then all the details came back - either someone was very quick spotting it or that's a neat auto-startup config.

YLODs only affect under 0.5% or something... Point is, it's a very small fraction.

That's not to say, however, that the PS3 is so much better than the 360 in that respect - it still gets knackered BluRay drives etc :p

Yeah true but I have a friend on his fourth 360 and only his first PS3. Needless to say he's in love with his PS3. He's practically given up on Xbox 360 at this point in favor of his PS3 and PC. Likewise I have another friend still on his first original release 360 and it works just fine. I've think I've fixed 3 RRODs now using the X Clamp method. This is a permanent fix and has a fairly high success rate. Some 80% of red ringed Xboxes can be repaired with a small retention bracket kit. When the solder on the LGA socket remelts, the chip is pushed down onto the board better and the bracket makes sure it stays.

It was a lot more than that when I last looked. Granted, nowhere near the original RROD level for 360s, but still, a good few percent I think.

Generally, all the replacement 360s from RMA are first gen consoles that have had bodge repairs, which is why you either have your first console, or you've had loads, the replacement ones are crap. By the way, the solder didn't melt inside them, it's just heat expansion :p

YLODs are simply the PS3's massive heatsink packing with dust and thus not cooling BOTH the CPU and GPU enough. You keep a clean house and it shouldn't really get you. Some people reckon it's the thermal paste but there's enough pressure between the Heatsink and the CPU/GPU for it not to be an actual factor.

It says in the book not use the PS3 in particularly dusty environments but people do and blame Sony for not fixing them. Not all cases are down to this but if you look at it from Sony's point of view it justifies the very few people who actually are getting ripped off here.

All of my electronics get blasted with the air compressor from time-to-time so dust buildup has never really been an issue for me. I have had a red ringed Xbox though a few years ago and since then have never bought another console. I'm seriously tempted with the PS3 slim though...

The PS3 has about double the good exclusives the 360 has, maybe more, and cheap ass Blu-Ray :D Who could want more?

Sorry what? Not starting a console war here, I'm no xbox fan despite owning one, but the level of exclusives on the 360 always seemed much higher to me.

The 360 has more and better exclusives, but I don't want to buy a broken product. It's as simple as that. 360s are cheap crap that are sold defective.

That they may be, but to be honest, that and the price I apdi isn't enough to counteract the downside of not having at least a console, but this is primarily due to my love of Guitar Hero/Rock Band, which undeniably the PS3 is the poorer console for (for no real reason). The PS3 is likely to be an ebay job when Gran Turismo 5 comes out (as ebay PS3s are less a lottery than ebay 360s), and the Wii price drop has already rendered one of those more tempting :S - So much to buy!

That's entirely subjective - you look at the list and tell me what is "good".

A mate of mine has deemed PS3 best and he has done something along these lines, selling the one before before moving on:

    Wii > PS3 > 360 > PC > PS3

He got rid of the PC cause he couldn't be arsed to fiddle with it. So from the perspective of someone who has owned and played all the current gen consoles I think PS3 wins!

NOW STOP ARGUING!!! :p (your not particularly arguing but shhhhhhhh)

EDIT: I came straight from IM so I accidentally used some EVIL! text speak :-(

This isn't the console forums, so we'll call it a day here - but suffice to say I don't own a PS3 because my 360 cost £105, versus the PS3 only having just dropped to £250 from £299.
