Or rather, the game highlighted her pink because you biled her....

Boomerbiling the tanks works a treat, especially if you throw a pipe bomb into the mix too.
Wow, the finale for The Parish is hard. On Advanced it took us 7-8 attempts at least, maybe over a dozen, I lost count. Suffice to say, all 4 preceding levels we did on the first try...

The game has a conscious? :p

Hey sam, any idea's why windows XP is not giving me as many options for the 16:9 Resolution settings, as Windows seven gives for a 16:10? I think XP only gives me 2 actual 16:9 resolution settings, where Windows 7 gives multiple 16:9 settings for a 16:10. Im a bit at a loss here. My drivers are up to date by the way.

Didn't really think about it that way. I guess we'll see when I hook that one up to windows 7. No time for that today to hook it up to my machine, but I suppose I could wait, and just hook it up to hers. She'll be running windows 7 inside a couple weeks on her machine.

You know whats funny? My 5 year old CRT has more settings than this new 16:9 monitor!!! 1280 X 720 actually looks pretty good on it too.

It should - CRT monitors have all sorts of image sizing options that LCDs don't need because they are perfectly accurate. With CRTs you have to fiddle with the positioning, size, pincushioning and so on to get a nice rectangular picture. LCDs are 1:1 pixel mapped since they produce the image digitally. Advanced technology they may be, but they're a lot simpler in reality!

You all were talking about Tactical Shooters a few pages back. How about Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter?

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter - is that the one in Mexico City?

I played 2/3 through that and then gave it to little Fernie - but I have been thinking about picking it up again - Steam had a bundle of several of those games for very cheap.

So does that mean, Boozer, that you finally now have a gaming rig?

Haha - so Jeff and Kevin like to play L4D a little bit toasted, huh? I too would be surprised a grenade launcher couldn't take out a witch. I jumped on late last week, and asked the new team to play something other than the first campaign, saying I had gone through Dead Center and nothing else, so they switched to Dark Carnival - and then in 20 minutes Miles, of Valve, jumped into the empty Coach position. Had we stayed in Dead Center he might not have jumped in. We were playing Advanced and finally finished it, but I told Miles later I'm sticking to normal on L4D2 until I thoroughly know the game.

Hey, anybody know if any of the melee weapons is more effective than any of the others. For example, the problem that I have with the melee weapons is getting used to the striking repetition - I am wondering for example if the Katana (spelling?) is more effective for example, than a frying pan - in other words, does it strike faster enabling more successful zombie defense?

This L4D2 has all these sections where you now have to turn off the alarm, so you are running and dealing with zombies. I am thinking that maybe a melee weapon works better than a gun - shottie or otherwise - in that scenario - what do you guys think?

Regarding the ending of Parish on Advanced - that must be crossing the bridge - never finished it - jumped in with teams playing it a couple times and found it quite challenging. Congratulations Sam!

Haha nope. One of my Macbook Pros has a REALLY old video card so I can play REALLY old games. But I play GRAW and GRAW2 on the xbox360.

The secret to the Parish finale is just to be as fast as you can. Never mind taking out every zombie coming at you, they aren't going to stop. Apart from the obligatory anti-Smoker/hunter/charger etc. saves, just leg it to the other side. Sadly, I got chargered on our attempt, so although we finished the campaign I didn't actually get the achievement for it. Not that it matters though, the achievement system for Valve games is almost always very buggy within the first couple of months of the games being released.

Sorry to hear about the charger - but I'll keep that in mind. Just RUN as fast as you can over that bridge.

Boozer, with the new xbox 360, you can play just about every new title out, isn't that right? What kind of a TV set do you have - oh, yeah, you have two big-screens at your house, right? Which one do you play on and what are the specs?

I think Abuzar has two 1080 Plasmas, a 55 and a 65. Nice for a big house, sadly a little oversized for terraced housing :p
Still, it's my opinion that a high-grade LCD is better than a cheap Plasma for the same cost anyway.

    Nahh. It's a 55" DLP and a 65inch LCD something. Both are 1080i :(

I was going to snag a 52" 1080p Sony BRAVIA, YES an LCD like you said, but it went out of stock. I'm heading to Pakistan when the semester is over so when I'm back I'll be buying a Porsche Boxter and that LCD :)

I've only played two games recently. I finished ODST on legendary and I've been playing Killzone 2 on Veteran. My copy seems to have freezing problems on the last levels if I die though and I had to shut off the PS3 and turn it on again. So for that reason I haven't finished yet lol.

I know 1080p is better - no interlacing - but is the difference something that is truly noticeable if one isn't paying attention? Is it quite a bit of a quality improvement?

Wow, we had fun tonight following Sam's rule on that bridge.

We were playing on normal, and somehow we said - "We should go fast but stay together." But we got a player who only heard the "fast" part - I guess there is some kind of achievement for a 3-minute bridge crossing they were saying. So this one person had practiced before and just blazed across - didn't stop for tank - nothing.

Anyway, I thought that was cool, and the player left pretty soon, in fact everybody left, but I practiced myself with the bots. Sure enough I made it out. That was on Normal.

Then I thought - "Would it work on Advanced? - you take a lot more damage with each zombie swipe - can I do what I just did with the bots on Advanced?"

It worked. I had a melee weapon of some type - a bat I think. And an AK47. Soon some other players came in, and finally we twice got a team of 3 people out on the helicopter. We got ready to do our last attempt to get all 4 real players out, but then we realized that the fastest rusher, somebody named Less, had gone. So that left the bot, Rochelle, and a guy who has been on my friend's list for a couple months, Crayola, the one who didn't make it out, and finally Rooster and I.

So I said "Ok, Crayola, we're going to do a buddy system, and you're my buddy, and we'll all run with Rooster. We'll try to get you out with us this time unlike last time when a hunter pounced you (he was dead by the time I got halfway back to him.)

We didn't fight any tanks - it was a little tricky but we ran around the tank. The open van with the ammo - you can definitely go around it on the left - and a little beyond is a similarly small-sized truck on the right that is almost blocking the way - but you can just barely go around to the right of that one without falling off the bridge. Then you immediately climb the back of the tanker car to get up to the tipped-over part of the bridge, where you drop down and toss a pipe to keep the zombies busy, while you take the off-ramp to the helo pad.

I took a few seconds to heal in the back of the ammo van during the tank music that last time with Crayola, and a minute earlier we had to take a couple of seconds to deal with at least one charger that knocked Rooster down.

I don't know if it was the 3 minutes achievement time - but what an intense "rush" it was! Everybody was on a high when the three of us flew out on the 'copter. Hahaha!

So then we went off to do the swamp campaign, lol.

Rich: 720p to 1080p is the sort of thing that can require attention to spot unless the screen is huge, but interlacing is obvious to me right away. The blurriness of deinterlacing is just not nice.
There is indeed an achievement for pulling off the bridge crossing in 3 minutes. That must take a lot of luck, quite frankly...

That's the thing I can kinda notice those little scan lines going across the screen. I'm going to assume that's the interlacing. Frankly I just couldn't do 720p because I want to use it as a monitor and it IS fairly large. Not to mention I just WANT 1080p and logic doesn't have to be part of that :)

Actually I'm pretty pissed at the moment because I broke my HDMI cable for my PS3 and my Killzone disc doesn't work. So I don't have HD and neither can I finish the game. Fifa is fun though :). I think shaf would be happy to know I finally started playing football lol.

P.S. Any of you guys play Halo 3, GRAW2, Gears of War 1 or 2, or COD4 (MW1, not the second one)?

Here's a little comparison of my First PC's Vid card, to my current. This is from the HP i've been talking about in the building thread. My my my technology has progressed a lot! :D This little guy actually runs 1920 resolution!

And believe it or not, it handles Project 64(Nintento 64 Roms) with ease :D

Because all the primary processing for ROMs is done off the CPU :p
I had a card very similar to that MX400, a 64-bit PCI version (ugh) of the MX440. Not sure exactly where it stood for the time in terms of performance, but it was a substantial upgrade from the 8Mb Rage Pro I had before then... :p
