    Oh, comin' stateside, are ya?

Hey - that's boozer's neck of the woods - are you heading over there?

You have to be kidding me. With your 26000 3dmark6 machine you're running the game smoothly at 800x600??????

    Hahahaha. That is a scream.

What the hell are they thinking - is it the new crysis or just somebody's temporary crazyness? Is the game any good to warrant that kind of foolishness?

From estuansis' update on BC2: "The AKs74u now has more felt recoil when aiming."

I am guessing that recoil means how the screen jumps - but when I read that - I thought - "Wait, those guys at one time were talking about using xbox controllers on the PC - which actually DO have recoil that you can feel when you fire."

So, just in case - how are you playing that game Jeff - with actual recoil controllers, or a regular mouse and keyboard?

LOL I never use a gamepad for FPS games. Are you crazy? Yes for a single certain game but I made that comment months and months ago :p

Mind you not just an average mouse and keyboard. They light up XD

No seriously MS Habu and Saitek Eclipse II.

Well this is complete BS! I just reinstalled Left4dead 2 for the first time in months, and it REALLY wants to do a massive update. The update will take 40min. Rather unimpressed with that. I should have the say so of updating or not, before I play the game. I tell it to pause the update, and it still won't let me play. Unbelievable...

That's Steam for you. Though once you're fully updated, it'll never bother you again...

what i hate with steam is that you have to go online to get to the offfline mode.

Not usually, I just find that games that aren't up to date won't work in offline mode.

Actually, since the GUI update, Steam has been a lot less buggy for me than usual. I have no complaints about the service whatsoever. It allows me to own any game from the last 2 decades for severely reduced prices, offers a way to play them from any PC, and guarantees I will always have a copy on hand. Steam is the wave of the future for PC gaming. Here's hoping they keep it in the gamers' best interests though and don't go sour like many other companies...

And incase there are any doubts, yes I do still prefer a hard copy if I can get it.

Also, Steam has guaranteed that if they ever go under, they will make it possible for Steam gamers to still play their games. I have no clue how, but considering this is the team that made Half-Life 2, I'm not worried. They have it figured out :p

Haha. Well, the idea of actual RECOIL seemed kind of cool! And the "light up" part is for sure on my list of "must-haves" - needing to keep a light on like I have to do right now is Gay - (no offense to anybody intended.) :D

LOL I'm not terribly fond of being pwned all the time either, Remind me to find out what servers Shaff plays on, and then stay FAR FAR away!! :p

Hahahahahaha! That's the funniest thing yet! It's loading that last freebie chapter, Kevin! I haven't touched my machine in 4 months, but with the table still in the Business rotation, I DID turn it on the gaming rig a month ago and I let it update Left 4 Dead overnight to get THAT chapter, for when I finally do start playing again. I agree with you buddy, I was thinking about how cool that game is as I was falling asleep last night!

"Go under!" Jeff, bite your tongue! Don't ever say that! That would have a BADDD effect on the income of somebody I know very well who throws some GOOOOOD parties! Hahaha.

The funny thing is, said party-throwing person was mentioning a short while ago, at the last party, that Valve, with a present staff of about 200, has not really created hardly any in-house games for ages, other than Half Life, Half Life 2, and Portal. Almost everything else have been mods, or in some other fashion have come from outside, like Counter Strike, Team Fortress, Day of Defeat, all mods, and Left 4 Dead, originally built by Turtle Rock studios under contract with Valve. So what are 200 very talented dudes doing in that case?

Well, in my opinion, I think that Valve has become quite a good solid publishing company, thanks to coming up with Steam - they sell virtually everything, have you noticed?

I think that's a very good thing. If a good company like Valve, with high values - not just the love of the dollar - can get a big piece of the pie that usually goes to the publisher, then you won't have talented people having to walk away because they're getting screwed by the publisher, like what just happened with the Infinity Ward guys, the non-Treyarch genuises responsible for Call of Duty 2, 4, and 6.

Speaking of COD2, do you think I could ever influence Gabe Newell to divert a chunk of those 200 geniuses to get back to his World War II roots (which he never had) instead of this nonsense science fiction crap? Hahahaha. Just kidding. And we all know that Alyx is HOT!

In my opinion, the first graphics card nvidia has got right since the GTX200 series. Still very much overpriced for what it is, but in terms of efficiency, price for performance, heat and noise, it puts the rest of the 400 series to shame. I don't quite think it's as good as the ATI competition, but it's sufficiently close now that I would not laugh at someone who bought one.

The 460 is averaging less, than I spent on my 260 in April of last year. I wonder how it compares. I imagine it stomps on the 260 ;)
Ouch! LOL! Doesn't get much blunter than that eh?

The GTX460 is a little behind the HD5830, which in turn is around 30% faster than an HD4870, which is the GTX260 216's main rival, so it's maybe a 25% performance boost you're getting. This of course is the 1GB version. The 768MB version is a fair bit slower in most games (though also far cheaper)

Used to really rate Eclipse IIs but they're just a bit too fragile. Fine if your PC never leaves the house I guess. For LAN gamers though, something with a bit higher build quality is preferable though.

Wow, Jeff and mad dog Shaff with the same kb/m setup? Looking up the mouse, I see it's basically a Razer - Sam's mouse brand of choice as I recall.

And the Saitek Eclipse ii doesn't look like I will need to tape the keyboard down to keep it in place for when I'm fighting off the hordes or trying to nail shaff - the crazy bf/bc jumper :p

(I see Sam doesn't advise for Lan gamers - but that's not me.)

    Thanks for the tip, guys!

Yeah I got my Habu used as a former floor model from Best Buy for $25 :D

No retail package, but they threw in the documentation, driver disk, 2 sets of new mouse feet, and a new set of both side inserts because the buttons were worn a bit. Other than the obvious signs of light wear, the mouse arrived like-new and not a problem since :p

2000DPI baby. Nothing quite like it. Using a hard plastic GameRigs BattleMat gaming mousepad. That and with 1000Hz polling turned on, I'm a happy camper. The tracking is superb :D

Oh yeah don't forget the Habu is a Microsoft/Razer collaboration. It has Razer Copperhead internals with a somewhat modified MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 shell. Very comfortable, easy to control, and a perfect fit for my large hands :D

This is basically the same exact thing as the Habu, but the Habu has some Razer stylings like flared buttons, lights, etc.

Well I use one of my Eclipse Is for LANs(both the red and the blue one). They are a bit tougher in that regard. But I've never had problems with durability on my Eclipse II. Probably doesn't hurt it hardly ever moves... I think the cheaper feel is due to the lighter-weight plastic, but it hasn't shown any signs of wear since I've had it and that's 2+ years now of moderate to heavy gaming. Mind you I keep a pretty light touch on the keys.

The newer Saitek keyboards have got, the worse the build quality is. The first Eclipse II I bought in 2006 was reasonably solid until, unthinkingly, I removed the spacebar, forgetting that spacebars can never be replaced on keyboards. The second one I got in around 2008 was dropped from three feet (not by me I hasten to add) and severely damaged from that, which was rather surprising. The cyborg is by far the lowest quality keyboard I have ever seen, all 99p keyboards included. Through entirely normal use, I split the enter key completely in half, and the rest of the keys had about an 80% chance to record what you pressed, if you pressed extremely hard. I've seen someone with an Eclipse III too, and it's falling to bits. The Razer keyboards are well made, but poorly designed, and excessively expensive. The MS SIdewinder X6 is so far the best gamers' keyboard I've had, and far from the most expensive.
