    This is quite possibly the longest length of time, I've seen the building thread without... posting traffic LOL!

    I just had something curious happen. Windows aero disabled, and over 50% of my cpu was in use. Winsat.exe seemed to utilize the greater portion there of. Kind of trippped me out LOL! Anyone know what that could mean? I don't recall Ok'ing any scans, or what not at PRECISELY 1:00Am!

    Windows 7 by the way.

    I've had windows Aero disable all by itself and come back a minute later on a few occasions. Doesn't happen often enough to warrant trying to find the cause.

    @Omega7
    WinSAT.exe (System Assessment Tool) integrated in windows runs a series of tests and then rates your computer on a scale ranging from 1 through 5. WinSAT.exe actually rates several subsets of your computer system, including processor, memory, primary hard disk, graphics, and gaming graphics.
    Try this...
    1. Open Control Panel >> Administrative Tools

    2. Double click Task Scheduler

    task-scheduler-windows-7

    3. Browse to Microsoft\Windows\Maintenance, and Disable the task named "WinSAT" disable-winSAT-windows-7

    4. Right click and select disable for WinSAT task in task scheduler.

    Ah yeah, the assessment test certainly will disable Aero, as it needs to run a 3D graphics test (with null output).
    Interestingly, the windows experience test in Win7 doesn't seem to update properly, as re-running the test with almost entirely different hardware will always produce the same score for all parts of the test.

    Thanks LP531, but it would appear that it only does it once a week(Sundays at 1:00Am). I don't see the harm in it. LOL, nor do I see the benefit. Thanks for the info guys.

    Hi Sam
    : )

    @Omega & Sam
    WinSAT.exe is not associated with any service...it is integrated as a scheduled task...which runs automatically from task scheduler...
    Hence the 1:00 prompted start time...
    Shutting Off the scheduled task should stop the occurrences...

    @Omega
    You are right...it will not harm anything by running...nor is it beneficial to run...at least now you know what it is...what it is doing...and you can now stop it if you wish...Glad to help...
    Lp531...

    Fool me once, fool me twice etc.
    Decided to change my overclock volts setting to Auto after realising I didn't need manual volts for only 3.4Ghz the other day. Never thought to check everest. Bad move.
    After wondering why the air coming out of my top fans was so hot, opened everest to discover my CPU temperature was 87ºC. Hmm, seems quite high I thought, new thermal paste? <checks CPU voltage> 1.55V.
    No more auto volts for me, EVER.

    anybody every employ one of these badboys?
    http://www.topmicrousa.com/c5ymff.html
    I'm trying to find the cheapest practical solution for running both a PC, and a PS3 without replacing a modem. The modem unfortunately only supports 1 ethernet connection. The following site says that two devices can share a network connection:
    http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-your-own-Ethernet-"splitter"/
    However the first link states, "Supports one active connection at a time." Does that mean that two devices Can't simultaneously utilize the network?

    By the way, newegg does not appear to have any...

    No idea, i use a nice Linksys 16 port switch and my various routers (see my sig). Haven't you got an old router lying around that you can use as a simple switch ?

    For all my packrat behaviors, and extra equipment...No. I have nothing of the sort. I guess im just gonna go out on a limb, and let everyone know what I think of the splitter. I'll put it to the complete test :)

    Hey russ, you ever try one of those little b@sterds?

    $13? You can probably buy a 4-port 100Meg switch for $20, way superior.

    Switch? But your 4 port switcher won't run 4 devices or even 2 for that matter simultaneously, will it?

    Of course it will. Four devices can all communicate to each other at once, that's the whole point of a switch. (Not switcher)
