3kJodo, your power supply is in dire need of replacement. I wouldn't trust that power supply to power a watch LOL! I hate to seem rude, but you really do need to hear it. If you want a good power supply, (others have said it) get a corsair power supply. You won't regret it. There are other good brands too. a 550W PSU is pretty good. I have one :D I also have a 750W corsair. Most stable PSU i've used ;) The 550W was close, but I think I have a slight bit more hardware than that badboy wants to run. I was aiming toward MORE proper sata connectors though too.

I believe shaff said that Maxtors are rebranded seagates. I concur. I've dealt with a few situations ;) Seagates in MY experience are not always very good drives. That could just be bad luck, but my luck seems to be with Western digital :D

Never had an Nvidia board. If it lasts more than one year though, perhaps you got your money worth. That's all I expect anymore. I seem to upgrade yearly now LOL!

I have the Tuniq cooler. It won't disappoint.

I believe someone else commented on the ram. Be sure that the ram you buy is compatible ;) Shipping times can burn up a lot of play time ;)

Estuansis, 24" only? You should be ashamed. And so should I LOL! XD

    ah, good to know. thanks.

    lol, sad but true.

Idle temps of 91C, how the heck did he use it? You would think it would reach the Tjunction during startup.

3kJodo, as far as I know no socket 775 cpus or MB's are compatible with DDR3.

Why? I wear bifocals, and a 24" does not work for me at all. If I push a 24" to the very back of the desk, it's not so overwhelming, but I can't see the damn thing clearly. Up close or pushed back I still get a headache from any 24". It's just too large! Great for gaming, but way too big up close for a desktop monitor! So far this is the best I've used. Great monitor too!

LOL russ. My mom loves her 23.6 asus. Very clear pic. Apparently her husband likes it even more than her. I simply like large things. A 30" monitor high resolution(2560 X 1600) or not, would be no different than a wet dream LOL! I would probably be happier with a 40" 1920 X 1080 HDTV, but since most of them suffer from overscan issues, I won't risk buying one or more of them. If I new that said 40" would NOT suffer from overscan, and had VERY good viewing angles. E.g. it would have to be at least an S-IPS panel. I don't want another TN panel LCD. I want a monitor that's excellent for photo editing, and gaming at the same time.

    Red_Maw,
It used to start out around 91C, get to 103C and crash the computer. Rick got into the habit of pausing what he was doing at 100C to let it cool down to avoid that! He would still crash it several times a day! Since he's installed the Coolit ECO, it hasn't crashed since!

hmm well this puts me in a quandry, since I was super smart and bought incompatable cpu/ram I must choose to shelf one or the other since they were approximately the same price. I would like some longevity from this build with options to upgrade along the way so I think will keep the ram shelf the CPU. It feels like I'm going backwards! But thanks to all your helpfull advice I now wont get a mobo with ram that wont work and house on fire so allready you guys have helped me out tons. Since I'm shelving the CPU I'm leaning towards a gigabyte xfire mobo of a socketype yet to be determined oh and takes ddr3 dimms at least I think they are 240 pin dimms I will have to check when I get to work if I recall correctly sdram and dimm are different forms which would require different styles of MOBOS?

Well I finally got that Roswill RC222 [SATA150] to recognize
I had to take out my IDE Card and plugged it in that slot. I guess that PCI Slot is bad
Hears the next problem...My HDDs are recognized by the card, by Device Manager, but not by Compute Manager. I can't assign a Drive letter nor does it show up in Explorer
    Everest shows it also
    Any thoughts on this

Are these new drives? Have you formatted them?

3K: There are a few 775 DDR3 boards out there. Most are dodgy nforces, but if you can still find a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R, that has two DDR3 slots on it. That won't support crossfire though.

id say if you want to choose DDR3 jump on tghe i3/i5 or AM3 bandwagon and cut your losses with old chipsets.

(which onc agian is ironic as i am using a Q6600 and on old chipset lol)

UHD has been around for ages, but it has never yet been commercialised due to the monumental difficulty of using it as an interface, bandwidth for transmission, bitrate for storage and processing power for decoding are all a huge headache. But yes, do want.
Due to the undoubtedly poor availability of UHD TV I would only want a UHD monitor of a 30" or so size for use as a PC monitor for higher pixel density. It would probably have to be at least PVA or IPS though, not going to sacrifice IPS picture quality for pixel density.

Me too Shaff. lol. BUT I like the idea of the i5 Intel or the AM3 AMD. Either are very good options and would serve anyone for years to come!!!! :)

Right now I would probably look at the AMD hexa cores for a new build as they have decent power consumption and perform well. Plus it's rumored that bulldozer will be compatible with AM3 MB's.

Doesn't sound like a very useful computer lol.

Russ, didn't you say that was the dual core 6000+ that was running at those temps? Wow. My 5200 I only saw that hit 55C once. 100C is smokin hot LOL! I wouldn't think CPU's can handle that temp.

    Red_Maw,
All I can say is he does an incredible amount of work on it, mostly video encoding. His computer runs pretty much 24/7! The AMD Athlon x2 6000+ is a real heater to begin with, but it apparently can take the abuse. It's not even overclocked! I almost jumped out of my socks the first time I saw Rick's temps! Obviously the thermal shut down is turned off in the setup. LOL!! I half expected it to boil the water in the Coolit!

    Oman7,
217.4F at shutdown! I've never seen, or even heard of temps that high before!
