Its setting in JBOD at the moment with Software spanning, i was going to put together a RAID 1&0 but that plans on hold....Again. that rattling sound was the HDD attempting to re-calibrate itself it failed twice but succeed the third time hence why the noise stopped. im just glade these dame thing have a 5 year warrenty.
Three failed products in a row is far more common than you might think if it's a known problematic product. Raid and AHCI work in odd ways with the newest WD drives. Keep an eye on it but you should be OK I think.
Russ, I DL'd ATTO and ran your tests on my SSD's which did pretty well but your right if I was using a SATA3 in my Desktop I'd be closer to your yields. You'll notice that I have added my new Corsair 60GB SSD to my new notebook so now I have two drives in it, the 60GB SSD and the WD 640GB SATA2 drive. Everything is running AHCI, no IDE interfaces. One thing to notice, at least on my laptop, is that with ATTO Benchmark I'm running right close to the spec'd 270MB claim from the manufacture, AIDA shows a slightly lower rate(s). Here are the results; NOTEBOOK AIDA64 Benchmark Corsair SSD 60GB ATTO Benchmark v2.74 Corsair SSD 60GB AIDA64 Benchmark WD SATA3 640GB ATTO Benchmark v2.74 WD SATA3 640GB DESKTOP PC ATTO Benchmark v2.74 SanDisk SSD 120GB ATTO Benchmark v2.74 Seagate ST1000524AS SATA3 1TB
Woo currently averaging 25-30Mbps down. Gotta love improving service Not to mention my prices haven't changed since I got this line at 18Mbps down.
I'm likely moving out here in ~30 days. I'm moving to a larger neighboring city. 7Mb connections are easily obtained there. I actually think 15Mb is more commonplace. Can't wait! Be quite some time before I get more than 15 I think. I'm actually quite pleased with my current 5Mb though
Only wish my service was dedicated like my last ISP. But 1.3Mb/s dedicated pales in comparison to a 20Mb+ shared line. Luckily I'm in a rather geriatric neighborhood so I don't have to share very often and I'm guaranteed my 18Mb/s even on heavy days Most days I average 20-30 but it goes up to 32-33 in spikes. That works out to about 2.5-3MB/s, making spikes to 3.5 and above, infrequently touching 4MB/s. Not only that but more speed boosts will be coming before too long. Charter says to expect at least 2 more. One to improve uploads yet again and one more to improve downloads.
I see that their "Ultra" package, offers 5Mb upload. Which translates to arount 500kB/s That's insane. That's my current DOWNLOAD speed! Jealous!
That's about right then. It concerns me when high speed download connections are given very weak uploads. The 4:1 ratio with FTTC in the UK (40 down, 10 up) is about right for heavy users. More asynchronous than that is annoying, especially at slightly lower speeds - the max upload speed for ADSL2 unless you have an Annex M service is 1.3Mbps, even if you get the full 24Mbps downstream.
My current upload speeds are about 4Mbps average and about 5Mbps tops. I have one of the all-in-one(Cable, Phone, Internet) service packages but focused on internet bandwidth so I get a very decent deal. When I got my service the options were 56k, 8Mb, 18Mb, and 60+ business. I believe the lowest high-speed they currently offer in my area is 12Mb. My previous ISP had synced up/down speeds but at 1-1.5Mbps it never really mattered. I think my line is currently rated for 22Mbps, at the same price I paid for 18Mbps. Would have to look at a bill, but I know the price hasn't changed. Charter was the lesser of several evils in my case. I have phone, fantastic internet, and a reasonably complete TV package for about $130 a month. Also consider I never really have to share my bandwidth, so it's quite nice to have
Good price here on the Patriot Pyro 60GB Sata III SSD. $69 with MIR from Tiger Direct. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0370701 Highly recommended! Best Regards, Russ
Russ, please be careful with that Coolit Eco. It just leaked on my GPU and fried it. Things could be worse, so I'm thankful for being close to it when it fried. But I may not go water cooling for a while. GPU's are far too expensive! I bought the GTX 260 in april of 2009. Not even 3yrs old. I suppose that is old in PC terms though But I'm curious what people think of "Lifetime warranty: Parts & Labor? I'm betting that that simply means they'll repair it at my cost. At least at this point. If it were only a couple months old, it'd be a different story. Should I even bother at this point? And the Coolit eco Was bought June of 2010. It has a 2yr warranty. Should I file a claim? Do you think they'll also see about replacing my GPU? Somehow I doubt that LOL!
Oman7, Where did it spring a leak? One of the hoses? I'm asking mainly because mine is a few months older than yours, and has been removed and reinstalled at least a dozen times, and the Radiator has been flipped 180 degrees, so the lines attach at the top of the radiator instead of the bottom, because it was too close to the video card, where it could rub against the video cards corner if you weren't real careful. If it was me, I would contact CoolIt about the problem you had, because you are definitely in the minority. I've never heard of a leak with any CoolIt system before yours. Best Regards, Russ
I haven't looked at it real closely yet. But it appeared to be leaking from the pump itself. I'll definitely be talking to someone LOL!
You should get a replacement GPU at shipping-only cost if you return it. Just make sure there are no obvious physical signs of damage on it. You won't get any insurance payout from coolIT.
I understand the CoolIT system is not meant for repeated stress, but they do advertise it on their site being swung around by the pump to demonstrate the strength of the materials. Basically, CoolIT made it a point to make these systems reliable. If it had a problem it was either straight up defective or you did something wrong, treated it roughly, wrenched it accidentally, etc. I've broken a fair few things without realizing it. I does bear mention that the hoses are very stiff...
It got mounted, and left alone. I never wrenched on it. While I may have neglected blowing out the radiators twice, I hardly think that is what ultimately killed it. I'm wondering if one of the bearings in the pump went, causing the pressure and heat to rise in that area. Introducing a leak I'll be examining it more closely today.
It wouldn't get hot enough to cause that kind of pressure increase so I really doubt heat was your issue. Maybe you had it by that d@m# ceiling fan again? LOL non-conductive water or other fluid should be used just for this reason.
That's just it! I was in awe that the GPU got fried. Surely they use non conductive material... It smells like antifreeze by the way. Green stuff too...
