Another Anandtech cockup by the looks of things - the 3870X2 uses more power than that - I expect the test they used didn't work in crossfire so the second GPU sat idle. Apart from that the chart is useful though, the graph ought to be updated with newer GPUs.
lol don't you like anandtech? and yeah some of the results looks a bit weird hmm...then what, must i wait until newer board is out? So that means only case, PSU and GPU are future proof
Future proof GPU? Dream on. Power supply probably, case, probably. As for Anandtech, they said the freezer 7 pro gives the same temperatures as a tower cooler (I forget which one) - that is grade A BS that.
Yeah PSU and case can be future proof, and even those not so much. A Blue Ray burner would last you about the same time also. Everything else gets outdated quickly.
no its not. they could have ben on a stock low power CPU, OR their meter doesnt read lower readings? OR the fan could have been running at max. anatech id trust, its one of the fully trust worth sites. and why doesn't the 3870X2 use that much power? Also sam, once again its not fact. my vista loads up in less than 2 minutes, with msn xfire, sidebar and everest and rivatuner all loading up at the start, on a nearly full 160GB per platter HDD. i have had near 0 bugs, and no bsods that wernt an Ocing fault. and this is on vista 64.
oh ok, thats not really believable for a cpu cooler yeah, they sure do, but my future proof is like 2 years, because by that time i've graduated and started a part time job, you know what i mean. and for the gpu, it is future proof, sam you're X1800XT last you quite some time didn't it?
umm sam, didnt the 8800GTX and the 9800PRO last a good 2 years? and remeber the 6000+ had a 90nm proccess, big power consumption.
yeah exactly, they are quite good gpu at that time...and at this time HD4xxx are the best oh don't forget about GTX2xx
I used it for a little over 18 months as a main gaming card, it's still in use now in my server. As for vista, you don't test it the way I do. When I test XP using your methods, it takes 28 seconds. Can Vista beat that?
whoa! ok, before you two start fighting, i don't know why, but my computer takes nearly a minute to boot up XP. Why?
testing from the splash screen to when you can open a program. I test from pressing the power button to when the HDD usage ends, as that is when windows has finished loading, as that is the complete loading time of the PC.
ok guys change of topic, doesn't extra 512MB of RAM really help the performance? Well let say gaming on a 24"
hmm, yeah but the price will increase much. anyways i'm done for tonight! Tomorrow morning i need to book for my drivers...
I picked up the 500 gig seagate 7200.11. Installing Vista again right now and it's still very slow, not quite as bad as it was earlier but still annoying. This thing is far more quiet though, and I'm looking forward to seeing the OS work a little more smoothly as well. Once I get it up and running I found my FEAR box. The last time I played it was on this laptop with a 128mb 7600 go and a 1.6ghz C2D. This should be sweet.
Loud in what sense? Samsung drives are prone for vibration (a humming noise), Seagates are prone to be very loud when seeking (grinding noise), Maxtors are prone for both, WDs generally aren't bad, but aren't perfect for either.
