i wouldn't even know how. that's beyond the scope of my limited knowledge. *edit* i tried looking into proxying, but all i got was a massive headache. i'm not a programmer or networking specialist or anything like that and thus have only learned from minor experience. it seems a bit too complicated for me to figure out on my own lol. oh well...i still get on IRC when i go home one or two weekends a month.
if you can't get on there using mIRC then jump on using the java chat. http://www.adbuddies.org/java/
@Auslander: configure the IRC port to 8080 or 80? 8080 is https, 80 is the normal http port for Explorer & Firefox. i've used that to pass through my Uni~ firewall in the past using torrent. Worked like a charm btw-i am not bullsh**ting you
you see, i don't even know where to go to reconfigure my IRC port. like i said, this type of stuff is typically far beyond me. i have discovered that if i set up a proxy system with firefox, chatzilla will use it automatically. http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/chatzilla/faq/#proxy lol, i'm just not sure what to do to properly configure a SOCKS proxy with firefox. *edit* the main thing seems to be that i need a proxy server that i trust, which i don't have. still no idea on how to reconfigure ports.
http://www.mirc.co.uk/help/proxies.html i searched google on "pr0xy server" irc Returned exactly what you'll need, see the first few links.
ah, see, i've looked at that link before. but there's disagreeable factors. the problem lies in all my data going through those proxies. i'd rather not give anyone an info of what's going through my comp unless i needed to; introducing a third party of complete unknowns doesn't float my boat, it sinks it. addditionally, i don't even both to use mIRC. i use chatzilla. i prefer stream-lined and efficient to cumbersome and ugly; additionally, last time i tried mIRC, it created a conflict somewhere on my computer that turned into a rather large headache to correct. unless i can find someway to either change the actual ports i connect with or otherwise by-pass the blockage some way with Chatzilla, it seems i won't be getting on irc until...the end of the month, when i'm home for the weekend. *edit* i see proxy software information and whatnot on that link, but the main problems there are that i don't have a router, i don't have a LAN setup, and they still all, in the end, require the 6660-6669 ports to be open for the final connections--which is the problem as they're blocked to begin with; to get around that, i'd need an outside machine that i could go through, leading me back to not wanting to have to trust a third party.
yes, that's called a man in the middle (attack). MITM is a popular way to h*ck WiFi connections for logins & passwords. I should know :| just configure the proxy ports for only the application you want to use. in this case, chatzilla. fyi-The .tor network by EFF.org has been abused by spammers. It allows someone to communicate anonymously using stringed proxy servers. Proxies mean nothing if the admin logs & keeps all his traffic. As long as you are using a high anonymous proxy that accepts connections at any port, you connect to the proxy on port 1-65,535+. but once connected the proxy negotiates traffic with the app's preferred port. Unless it forces a selection of a specific port. http://www.basic.northwestern.edu/primers/techfest.html http://www.granneman.com/teaching/websteruniversity/infosecmanagement/auditor/nmap.htm http://labmice.techtarget.com/networking/tcp.htm
