    chriso123,

Ok, we'll keep them of the recommended list as there is no guarantee that they will change manufacturer again.

I am trying to collect 1) brands with certified, 100% reliable quality 2) brands with serious variations 3) brands with low quality. No need to re-invent the wheel -> http://www.cdr-forum.de/index_cdrohlinge.php

...so what makes them good or bad? what is this based on?

i've been using these HyperMedia CDRs (cause they're cheap) and it turns out they're:
    Manufacturer : CMC Magnetics
    Code : 97m26s66f
    Disc Type : CD-R
    Usage : General
Recording Layer : Dye Type 6: Short Strategy (Phthalocyanine)
    Recording Speed : n/a
    Capacity : 79:59.74
    703 MB
    Additional Capacity : n/a
    Overburn Capacity : not tested

yet i don't recall a single problem with them.

ok, so it appears that archivability is the biggest factor, but this isn't realistic, you know?
unless you leave em sitting in a car under exposed sun light, they aren't really going to be tested by the elements.....

and as far as compatibility, i've yet to experience a problem with these CMC discs in any environment; both audio and data.

CMC has been a notoriously bad distributor ever since it's been on the business. I have tested them every now and then, and always find problems.

But what you say is true also. Reports of CMC vary a lot and some people seem to have very good results with them. It might be that for some drives they work alright.

what kind of problems you encounter?
    under-run errors?

i use them primarily for audio compilations and have yet to experience any problems.

    Hi,

I've mostly used Memorex and never before encountered problems with them until last week when I bought a spindle with 50 CD-Rs, 700MB, 52x and was only able to burn the whole lot of them at a speed of 4x. The Nero CD Info identified the manufacturer as being Prodisc. Unfortunately I don't know the specifics of my cd drive. All I can tell you is that it came with a Dell Laptop and is a CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R combo drive and can usually burn CD-Rs at a speed of 10x. Wether or not this means that Prodisc needs to be taken out of the trusted list I cannot say. I just wanted to have mentioned this...

    CU all

cd-rw.org you can edit Verbatim on the list to include Taiyo Yuden. I just bought a 50 Spindle of Verbatim which were Taiyo Yuden._X_X_X_X_X_[small]Trevelyan: For England James?
    Bond: No, for me.

Have CDR brands to report. E3Works codes as Lead Data,
Imation is Moser Baer & the whire label Blue print Memorex is Ritek.

    2nd & third I've seem before but not E3Works.

Got these from an old time radio group &I belong to. Borrowed from the group library. The 4 Bob Hope CD's get put on the HD then burned to a Sony DVD. The other two single discs get copied to Ritek discs. Then the original discs go back to the group library...

I thought Verbatim CD-R manufacturing would follow true-to-form like DVD+R. I got six 100 packs, and the boxes say Mitsubishi Chemical. The discs ID as CMC Magnetics. Did I get taken? TIA!

is there an updated list of reliable cd-r brands/ manufacturers? this one is 3 years old. there are brands that aren't listed on it. as well as the fact that alot of brands have probably changed manufacturers since the list was made.

The only manufacturer I really trust is Prodisc, but it's hard to figure out which brand is using them.Fujifilm and Maxell are Prodisc (this month anyway).
    The rest are a toss-up.
Recent Verbatims are Ritek, also some Dysan that I purchased were Ritek. The Dysan were a bulk pack and did not look very appealing out of the package. They weren't very good, even burning at reduced speed.
Although Memorex get a bad rap in the DVD forum, the CD's I see recently were made by Prodisc.I know people who use them a lot, with no problems.
I use Ritek white printables with no problems.

If you run across any old stock Memorex Cool Colors CDR's the ones I got last year were made by Prodisc. Once I found out they weren't CMC I cleaned out a Blockbuster that was selling them off at $1.25 per 25 pack. 125 discs in all!!

The Prodisc Memorex I meantioned worked fine as audiodiscs burned around 32z with a small number of dats discs also burned at 32x.

Here are the stats from one I checked in Nero CD-DVD Speed.

    General Information
    Drive: CDWRITERIDE5232
    Firmware: A030
    Disc: Audio CD (Prodisc)
    Selected speed: Maximum
    C1 errors
    Maximum: 49
    Average: 1.29
    Total: 5941
    C2 errors
    Maximum: 0
    Average: 0.00
    Total: 0
    Jitter: n/a
    Scanning Statistics
    Elapsed time: 2:17
    Number of samples: 5246
    Average scanning interval: 1.14 sec
    Glitches removed: 0

I never had trouble with the Ridata branded CDR's or even the DVD-R's) I got from Meritline. They burned great in both my Emprex CDR writer & my Plextor 716-A. The Dysan ones that were meantioned must have been a bad batch. The CD's burned well at 52x in the Emorex (& 48x in the Plextor) plus the DVD-R's were fine at 8x. but then I don't burn CD's over 32x & often at 16x to try & get a better quality burn. Same with DVD's. I often burn them at half the rated speed.

Does anybody know how to post a picture (& where that pic is stored) to the group? I wanted to post the actual Nero graph I got from this disc.

    @bratcher
All of my 'Ritek' disks, the Dysan,Maxell and Ritek were the same code:
    97.151.7
I agree that the Dysan were exceptions to the rule.
Images can be uploaded to many sites for storage, 'Imageshack' is one.
The code to insert in your post is stored with your image.
The format of the code can be seen when you edit your post.It can be seen when you edit your post (the little pencil and notepad on the top-right of the post).
The "img" on this forum must be lower case.

I picked up a MIJ 50 pack of Fugifilm at Randalls today while I'm waiting for my silver/matte TY's to arrive from Supermediastore. 48x & they code out as TY. Did I get some older stock or has Fugifilm gone back to TY for it's discs?

All of the FujiFilm CD-R media that I've been purchasing at KMart for the last year or so has been Ty . . Several month ago they had packs of 50 for $7.99 at KMart . . buy one get one free . . .I purchased two CASES and have had zero coasters in over 300 burns so far . .

Funny thing is that 2 of my burners, HP740b and Plextor PX712a won't burn them at all
