TUTORIAL: How to play backups w/o mod chip, only Max Drive Pro Memcard

Yes it is possible with a BBA and a crossover cable, more info at modthatcube, but people, WHY do you want to backup your own games? Downloading them is so much easier and better (when you have the original game anyways).

 

Maybe to exchange some games with friends?

I prefer downloading as wel... got like 60 games now


I recieved my MDP yesterday, great service! Just 3 days from UK to Holland. Also recieved the mini dvd-r's from www.opusshop.com. Too bad I dont have my cube with me this week (some kind of vacation). I'll post my results next week for you guys

Btw, anyone can tell if fullsize dvd-r/dvd+r works with a replacement case??


Something else, 1 thing I dont understand yet. When I load GCos, do I destroy the real bios in de Gamecube? Or is it just a second bios which is on top of the original? I dont want to ruin the original cube... thanks for answering this..

 

I can confirm that my method works.

I messed up in my first description, the "Backup Game" option is under the "Tools" menu.

Also, since you have to setup the network to be able to connect to the GC, here are working options (if they dont work, try disabling all other networks on your comp)

Network Connections -> (create a new connection, or go into the properties of an existing one) -> Highlight "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" -> hit the Properties button, then enter the following:

Use The Following IP address:
IP - 192.168.1.31
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1

Use The Following DNS server address:
192.168.1.1

AFter all that is setup you should be able to go into Internet explorer (works in FireFox sometimes, but i never have any problems with IE.). Type in 192.168.1.32/backup.iso and a notice will popup asking if you want to open the file or save (obviously choose save), then you can name it to whatever you want, hit save, and the backup will start immedately (takes 52-55 minutes to make a full backup).

this method ive tried but it didnt seem to work. can somebody tell me if i have to make changes for this in the gcos 1.5 also and also what should i list as the alternate dns server and the prefered dns server.

This will do nothing to the real bios, the bios is loaded off the memor card which is what's great about this method, it leaves your gamecube totally untouched and intact! (unless you have to open it and adjust the POT).

You said a while back that you can run N64, SNES & NES emulators. I have searched all over to no avail. Where can I download such emulators?

 

A simple google search for Gamecube Emulation brings up the GCEmu site:

which has a tonne of info. It has everything except n64, which doesn't even work that well. Only a couple of games will run, it's not really even an emulator, it's a hacked version of the real gamecube game zelda: collectors edition, where they insert roms other than zelda 64. What else do you need?

 

hey guys im not able to backup up the game can somebody plz explain exactly what to do i will tell u what i have done.
what i did was:

You need to type in the address that shows up on your tv, not what you set the network to.

 

whatever i wrote is what i setup on my tv on gcos1.5 and my pc in network connections. and what showed up on my tv is what i used as the ip address in internet explorer and it didnt work zo plz help me figur out how do to it thanks!

 

The ip addresses on your gamecube & computer need to be different. Assuming the gamecube says to type "192.168.1.32", you want to set your ip 1 less, for example:



Then once you use the settings i said above, you'll enter the exact address that shows up on the gamecube into your internet browser and it should work.

 

it still doesnt work plz help me. i have two connections in my network place curently in my laptop they are one the connection which says broadcom 440 x integrated controller and one regular wireless network connection. i changed the settings on the broadcom connection like u said and on the gamecube bios it is 192.168.1.32 the ip address. so it is one number lower on the broadcomn connection it is 192.168.1.31 and on the gamecube it is 192.168.1.32. see and then i typed the 192.168.1.32/backup.iso but it said page cannot be displayed so help plz

 

Sometimes it doesnt like when i have more than one connection running. Have you tried to disable the other connection then enter the address?

 

Ok, I have the Max Pro software and Mini DVDs on order but have a few questions ....

1) I only have to use the "fix" utility if I have a .gcm file which is less than 1.3GB right ? All .iso's of any size can just be burnt straight to DVD, right ?

2) Have I read the previous posts correctly in that once I have successfully got the BIOS onto the memory chip - I can then use the Cube's memory management tools to copy the BIOS file to any memory card I like (even official Nintendo ones) ? And once done, provided the card never becomes corrupted I don't have to the the Max Pro PC software again ?

3) Using this soft mod will in no way damage the Cube's 'internal' BIOS ?

4) I bought my Cube, in the States, in the November of the year they came out. Do the older Cubes need the POT tweaking or they more likely to work without the POT tweak ?

 

1)Correct, the fstfix utility only needs to be used w/ files that are less than ~1.3GB in size. If you get an iso that is less in size than this, it won't work anyways so just delete it.

2) Yes, you can use the cubes memory tool to copy the .dol onto any memory card of your choice, and use the MDPro disc to run the software off of any memory card. This is desirable because sometimes, the MDPro card can become corrupt (but only the GC recognizes it as corrupt, it will still work with the MDPro disc and u can still use it to boot games).

3)yes, this mod will leave ur internal bios untouched and perfectly intact.

4) POT Adjustments are really just hit or miss, but the trend usually is the earlier the better, so you should be safe.

 

I got it working too at once

Games I tried :
- Mario Sunshine, seems to work fine
- Mario Kart Double Dash, got error after Hz selection (50/60)
- Paper Mario, seems to work fine
- Mario Smsh Football, seems to work fine
- Xtreme G3, seems to work fine


Tommorrow i'll open up the cube to check the POT.

Btw, I am using :

- NEC 3500 burner
- Traxdata 4X DVD-R (ritek mediacode)
- Burned at 4X
- 06 Drive in a PAL GC

After a fully working re-burn of Mario Kart DD it seems my drive is working fine so I dont need to adjust the POT

Well, the MaxDrive Pro apparently arrived today - just hope the mini DVD-Rs did as well.

Another question .... does the MaxDrive Pro + memory card supercede the Freeloader ? ie with it, a US Cube can play proper PAL games and 'backup' NTSC & PAL games, right ?
