    brucedlx,

I must have made is sound like it was shoved into a corner. lol. It was about 18" from anything, TV, entertainment center, speaker, etc. In the middle of the floor actually. Would it be wise to remove the cover and give it a good canned air experience? I do that with my computer a few times a year and since this is a little computer maybe that would relieve some of the problems. If these problems continue I think a lens cleaning would be in order before messing with the laser POT setting. What do you think? Thanks for your time.

Sure, if you are confident enough to clean the lens yourself than by all means you should try that before trying a pot re-adjustment.

Also, the pressurized air cleaning couldn't hurt, but I personally would be too scared of blowing something out of place. I too open up my computer every now and then for a good cleaning, but that's different because I know how the PC is put together solid, but if I were to knock something out of place in the gamecube I wouldn't know what to do. It is for this very reason, actually, that I never buy modchips, I'm too scared of messing up the insides :)

can you use any bios with MaxDrive Pro ? Or is just gcos1.5 ? If so, are any particularly recommended ?

And if you could, would a different bios give different results ?

    Hi all:
I have decided to uy the MAX Drive Pro to be able to play backup games.
I also have to buy a dvd burner as the one I have does not burn mini-dvds. I would really appreciate if you guys could help me decided between this burners which one would be the best one for burning backups:

Both NEC and Pioneer have very solid reputations for quality and performace.

You might also consider the BenQ 1650 or 1655. I've been tickled pink with my 1655 - it's a solidly built drive and has given me the highest quality burns I've ever had (with quality media of course). They're very popular drives with the folks around here :)

I might also suggest newegg.com as place to order from - they're one of the best outfits on the web to deal with and also a favorite of AD members :)

    Here's a BenQ DW-1650 at newegg for $27.25,

    Hi all,

    Done several tests so far.

3 backups work fine, but have also made 6 coasters.

One of the coasters was when burning MK:DD - but reburnt it and everything is. The majority of the other coasters were with one particular image (Battalion Wars - both unfixed and fixed).

Does anyone see any advantage in updating my fairly ancient Pioneer DVR105 (which has had no problem burning normal size DVD-Rs) with a new DVR-111 ?? ie is a 33% success rate down to the media or the burner or even burn speed ??

I am using Nero 7 on a pretty powerful machine. What speed are most people burning at ?? 4x ? 2x ? or 1x ?

Riku: I've never seen the setting up 08 drive screen problem before, sorry I can't help you.

Adambrunt: Any BIOS can be used with MDPro, but GcoS1.5 is the best in my opinion. the NinjaShell or whatever is also apparantly decent w/ the MDPro.

As far as the burner, no, I don't think the DVR-105 is the problem, but remember always to burn at max speed (usually 4x). Unlike the dreamcast, burning at a lower speed is NOT beneficial with gamecube mini-dvds. Nero 7 is fine, and Traxdata is a fine brand, so I guess if you REALLY wanted you could upgrade to a newer pioneer (mine is DVR-108 and I've never had 1 misburn).

Protoman: to fix the black and white, force the region of your gamecube. So, if you live in North-America or Japan, force load NTSC. If you live in Europe, force load PAL. Don't just press A to auto-detect.

    Thanks brucedlx,

I think I was test burning at less than 4x ... I'll try again when my next lot of TraxData discs arrive.

Latest set of blank TraxData disks turned up today.

So far, 2 perfect burns 6 coasters !!! All burnt at 4x speed.

But now I am not sure if it is the ISO it doesn't like ... how can this thing be so hit and miss !!??!!

On checking the Nero logs, it keeps saying "Power Calibration error" quite early into the burn process. Any ideas ?

it's a problem either with your computer or your burner. Also, are you ripping the ISO yourself or getting it from a torrent?

the images are all got from torrents.

what I am never sure about is whether you have to put iso's through FSTFIX or just the .GCM files ?

put the .gcm files through fstfix, although if the reason u have coasters is because you can't even get it out of the DVDBurner properly, it must be ur DVDBurner. If you burn w/o errors but it doesn't work on ur gamecube then it is a problem with the gamecube.

    It's definitely not the cube.

I have 5 backups which all work fine - including 2 that were burnt with today's batch.
