    A simple TFT shouldn't have to cost much, i've seen them go for as low as $120 for a simple 17"

    Don't know if you're in the States, but if you live near a Goodwill Store, I've seen 17" CRT monitors for five bucks....only missing a fifteen dollar cable to connect them to the PC. Once in a while you'll find one with the cable, but rare from what I've seen.
