USB Video Capture Device(s)

after reading all that i wouldnt have bought one either, but i did 3 days ago before reading all that!! and it works beautifully i captured a vhs video and made a dvd within 3 hrs of install works much better than the plextor Av100u, i coulnt get the driver to load for !! i couldnt be happier with the 150 it works great and the tv and audio no problems!!!!!!!!

 

I know that Hauppauge were working on the 150 problems. Not everyone had them, but some did, on certain motherboards, with certain chipsets.

Wow, I hope I don't have those problems as described in the shspvr.com forums with the 150. I was thinking about getting the 150 but Jim showed me the way.
Roryoss, produce more DVD's with VHS and let me know how it goes for you. I am ready to get a video capture card, so I can start creating more DVD's, but I am researching all avenues first. You know, getting prepared.

 

Those forums really open your eyes, when it comes to the differences in the Hauppauge cards
I know there's other makes/models. If you hunt around, there's a reasonable hardware mpeg-2 encoder card from Diamond. It's cheaper than the Hauppauge 250, but it also doesn't have the 3rd party software support. You have to use the software that came with the card, and it's not the best (for TV and cam captures).

 

Hi Guys, I'm trying to get to work this Pinnacle DVC 90 USB with my Win 2000 thinkpad, just downloaded the drivers for win 2k but video does not work, audio is null, I think this doesnt work at all on win 2k ???

I also tried it on a Win 98 machine with the corresponding drivers but no luck.

I'm desesperated :0 ! I dont want to update to Winxp since this is my office's machine and need to work with Win2k.

Yes, this driver is supposed to work for win2k, that's why I'm confused.
Video is not good and no audio att all. AM Capture works like that, but Studio 9.4 doesnt display any image at all.

By the way this is a USB 1.1 version.
Please help.

 

I'll try upgrading to USB 2.0 and ill let you know what happened.

 

Video output could be the result of the video card, drivers for it, the capture codec used, and the playback codec, and nothing to do with the capture device.
How is audio set up on that device? Is it a separate cable?
If not, the manual should explain how to set up the software for the audio source.
Have you got an audio cable from the source to the device?

 

Yes, separated cables composite signal.

Card says USB2.0 only, this is 1.1, I'll upgrade and let you guys know.

 

Just bought the USB 2.0 and the video is shown and audio is ok, but when capturing, all the system crashes!!!

Have you updated the drivers from the website?
Are there any yellow ! marks in device mangler?
What capture software are you trying to use?
Did you set up an EPG?

 

Problem was USB 2.0 Drivers for Root Hub, I just uninstalled them and installed the Fix Pack 4 for win 2000 drivers, really painfull process!!

Now it is working great, but not problem is Studio 9 does not capture well, AM Capture does, so I need something else to capture, audio is crap and sync sucks, I'm capturing with AM now, but files get huge, I need something that captures in WMV.

If you got the hauppauge USB PVR device, it only captures in mpeg-2, DVD compliant files.
If you want .wmv, open them in windows movie maker and save as .wmv
You can also open them in virtualdubmod, and save them as avi, using any codec you like for compression.
Exactly what device did you get?
What is "AM" capture software?

AM capture comes with it, simple capturing software.

Just tried Virtual Dub, it rocks man!!
Studio 9 just sucks, I'm sorry to say this, but it does not capture anything but mpg, and it does it very bad.

How can I make Studio 9 to capture pure .AVI without compression ?

 

usb 2.0 is fast enough for transfering vhs to dvd ,i have used a hp dc5000 external dvd writer with no problems,when i first installed the writer to a usb 1.1 was not fast enough,2.0 works fine.

 

Guys, just to let you know, I tried capturing the audio from the Line In instead of the capturing card audio and it is very fast, I can capture an mpg with Ulead VideoStudio 9 and image and sound is very clear, I'm happy =).

I'll try again Pinnacle Studio 9.4.3, whom, by the way, when I wanted to uninstall it it erased all my decoders including my already registered DivX.
