read all the 'R4' threads below yours and you can judge it yourself.

I have the original R4 from years ago, and its still works.... but alot of new games doesnt play on it, cant update the firmware either because the maker no longer produce or support it anymore.

if i am to buy a new card, i would choose a card by a long established maker such as acekard, cyclods, supercard and ezflash with regular firmware update releases.

    DON'T GET AN R4!
Nothing but hassle trying to download the right firmware for it. I have been trying all day and it still doesn't work.
I am getting a CycloDS instead.

What would you recommend - Acekard 2 or CycloDS. I want something that is easy to use and won't give me any hassle. The Acekard I have found is over £10 cheaper than the CycloDS, and after spending money on an R4, I don't want to pay for something that won't work!

CycloDS seems appealing as you don't have to download any software for it - something which I was having serious problems with before with the R4...

i used acekard2 (not acekard rpg) before but i find the build quality is low but the new acekard 2i is better build, gbatemp.net gave it a Gold Award. cyclods cost more than most card because it have lots of features, you can read the reviews at gbatmp.net
if i have to buy a new card, i would get the EZflash Vi , just incase i'll get the new console DSi in the future.

I use the R4. Been using it for a long time and have no issues. New games work and old games do also. Only had to patch 2 newer games so far. Yes the original with the version 1.18 firmware that they dont update anymore, blah, blah, blah. Works fine even without updates.

    The r4 sucks!

I have one, and yeah you can get games that work with it, but is hard. Is so freaking hard that if wasnt because some really nice people hacks roms so they can work in the r4 and other stuff, the r4 would be already be death.

I just received an R4. Version 1.19 is available for download from the r4 website. I had it up and running on my DS Lite, but never got the multiple skins to work. No biggie. But I have since gone to using R4YSAuto and Yasu's YSMenu for my firmware. It also worked right off the bat like v1.19 did. I'm going to get some more DS Lites and consequently more flash carts. Even though the R4 worked for me, I may try a Cyclo or DSTT or something else, I haven't decided. Something that will get continuous support.

But for those having fits with your R4, don't discard them! There is hope. Try v1.19 but also check out R4YSAuto with YSMenu.

Once you get this flash cart, then what? Is there a guide to get the games working from there?

AK2i support DSi. If you wanna buy the one support DSi, buy it. and DSTTi is OK too. If not for DSi, I suggest M3 real. works great
