Your credibility doesn't suffer that much. I believe something was said about your demeanor. You retain the title of being one of the more knowledgable people on Shrink in our midst. Your favoring the program is understandable. As long as you give others the room to disagree without in the face flame throwing, I see no problems.

Well you may not have much credibility with some people, but not everyone feels that way ;) I've seen enough of your posts over many months that I don't have any problem taking you seriously. Besides, I'd like to see more discussion about the latest version of Shrink. I don't use anything besides CCE based solutions for movies, but I use Shrink for menus so more opinions are always good for me. Just don't expect me to join in too much. I consider gettting into those types of arguments (and they always turn into arguments eventually) about the same as discussing religion ;)

dd, your credibility is fine, I think you know that. No one doubts your veracity or knowledge. Your input is invaluable to this forum ( you just need to be a little more open minded LOL) I think a new thread would be an excellent idea, what da ya want to call it?

The new and vastly improved Shrink?

vurbal, How true how true, sometimes, I just can't help myself.

At least I was one of the first with a 3.2 Shrink thread. Thar she blows. Don't know what can be done with it. We'll see how it goes. I was a bit noncommittal in the approach.

I think I sort of summed up what it boils down to, a matter of choice and much is in the eye of the beholder. Time, experiences and circumstances influence the choices and we all have a different combination.

Good free choices, good retail choices, and a good choice in types of software. CCE is slow good and Copy2 and the like are good and fast. CCE excells at high compression so the one button programs don't compare there. Apples and oranges again. Different choices for the different enthusiasts.

Thanks vurbal, I appreciate it. :)

I originally thought providing clips would be a good idea, as I totally agree with the inadequacies of judging a backup on the strentgh of frame-captures.
Clips can also be played in slow-motion, having the advantage of making them last much longer, and showing quality degradation even more.

    bigorange, you convinced me. :)
I'm gonna start a new thread where I'll post links to all my compilation tests (no as a game this time).
New tests include DVD2One v1.5 with 5 different settings, DVD2Copy, and DVD2DVD-R/CCE (VBR 2 pass).

This time I'll try not to be sarcastic in my replies if my honesty is doubted.
Actually, I'll simply not reply. ;)

dd- I'll say it again, your veracity is not in question here. Just your bias, just kidding!! ;)

Besides, hillbillies from the Smokey Mountains are to slow to "get" sarcasm anyway.

BTW, I have updated DVD2one, haven't had a chance to use it yet. How do the results look? Any major improvements in quality, I swear I'll take your word for it. lol Seriously, I am going to give it a go this evemning, it's been a long time since I've used it. I'll probably have to drag a guide out.

bigorange, I'm in the process of making DVD2One compilations.
    I'll post links soon.

If you're willing to take my word for it: disappointing.

You lost me there, bigorange, does it actually mean you will not take my word for it? LOL

If you're willing to take two words: very disappointing. ;)

Instant Copy 8 versus DVD2One, which would you say is better?

What can I use with either one of these to get rid of the extra features?

You can set a Shrink's compression level to None and you won't get any compression. It will warn you that the DVD is oversized, but you can just click OK and keep going.

no, if you use "re-author" then all it does is get rid of whatever audio/video streams you specify, this puts LESS compression on the movie which (as long as its 10% or more, i.e. 50% then you take off DTS which puts it to 30% compression, would improve the quality.

Anything nearing 20 to 25% is going to start causing problems for the current version of Shrink. The Re-Author does a good job of trimming and you can even select the movie only. Getting the compression down, that is the choice. The only fault I have is no menu function with Re-Author.

The new 3.2 version increases the ability of Shrink to work with higher compression. Really noticable improvements appear to be greatest at 30% and above.

I've come to believe that the answer to the original question will never be truly answered. Dozens of people have joined this thread to try and find the answer to the original question, but only a few actually came to a consensus. But many people found numerous areas in which to disagree and that's OK, but somebody has to be right and somebody has to be wrong. Perhaps it's all a matter of opinion, subjective and left "to the eye of the beholder."

There is no doubt this is a thread highly subjective in nature, in fact, extremely so. Too many varibles and in an uncontrolled enviorment, definitely not scientific lab protocol.

On a good note, it has sparked many a lively debate, albeit some heated, but nevertheless has resulted in a wealth of information in which to peruse.

So yes, sophocles, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but now the beholder has a variety of means to reach an end suitable to his or her liking.

Now if we can guess when Vurbal is going to release his DVDremake guide. BTW, I've had Alcohol 120% for over a year and it's truly fine software.
