Alas, in the old days they could be cruel. Just think of someone giving you cake and not allowing you to eat it.

Maybe we're thinking across cultural lines. It was rumoured that Marie Antointte in reference to peaasant cries for bread, supposedly said on the night before the revolution "let them eat cake." It's believed to be a myth of course but here's a link that disusses it.

Well, Castaway made it through the edited RMP/RB-CCE process. As compared to the original (8 GB), I can't tell the difference. But...

Nero say, verbatim, "One or more files (mostly VOB files(s)) do not belong to the corresponding IFO files." It goes on to give the familiar "reallocation failed & DVD might not be playable" verbiage, of which the RW doesn't play.

My next step is to run Castaway through RMP/RB-CCE without any edits, and see what Nero does then.

If anyone knows how to fix the RB files, or has any thoughts, please let me know.

It's been so long since I did Castaway I can't remember. I have found a few DVD's that just don't benefit from DVDremake, usually movies where the entire content of the movie is collected in the main movie title set. Check it with DVD Shink and see how much you will save by removing unwaned audio tracks. If it's significant then back it all up.

I did Lawrence of Arabia last night which is the longest running movie I've ever done at 227 minutes. There just weren't any savings using DVDremake so I backed the whole thing as is and it worked prefectly.

Did you try DareDevil with the suggestion I gave you? They worked perfectly for me and with the unwanted audio tracks removed it came in at just over 6 gigs. With exception of Vurbal we're all new at this but its been a good ride so far.

I'm beginning to adopt that philosophy ... there really wasn't much to be gained, GB wise, from editing. Just the "power" to remove a few nuisances. I can live with 'em.

DareDevil is right after I get Castaway burned.

Why do you even bother with "Daredevil", it's such a bad movie?! :p

It's the complexity of the movie's structure that makes it interesting.

It is bad. My son's trash. He's 14. My motivation with it is to learn Remake Pro.

(He watches a Shrink beta backup, while his 'ole dad plays around with the real thing.)

My son is 17 and has no taste of anykind. Because the movie was so complex I contacted dimad and helped obtain the streams which resulted in an important update in dealing with muiti angles.

    ddlooping (Double "D")

It gets worse, I've spent the last two days trying figure out how to back Terminator 2: Extreme Edition. DVDrebuilder identifies it as being multi angled/interleaved but I can't find a single title set that supports that.

Have you ever tired to transcode Lawrence of Arabia (227 minutes)?

As you know I switch to re-encoding when the compression required is > 20-25%.
I'm pretty sure it would apply to this movie. ;)

    On Castaway.
When you burn with nero ignore those particular errors. Let it burn to a disc.
The disc will burn and play fine. I have run into this a few times on heavily edited movies.

@64026402 ...Thanks. I'll try that. I had my doubts about that particular RW disc. It is well used.

@ Sophocles. ...I am currently doing Ben Hur, which is 12.4 GB total - no edits. I ran it through the DVD2One(v1.5) combine feature, and with the new "low" setting. The ultimate test was the chariott race where everything on the screen was in motion ... and I did not see any artifacts or macroblocking. I would say that the overall "appearance" of the backup is 97% of the original.

I am going to try my luck at combining the discs in Remake - for a run thru CCE, and then try the combine feature with Shrink (beta). It should be interesting.
