    Well, I just finished CCE for the night. I figure I'll run some DVDshrink 3.2 backups while I sleep.
    I'll post results tomorrow.

    Not a bad idea ... setting Shrink to work before you go to bed. I just finished LOTR-Return with deep analyis and Sharp default - with a total time reading of 2 hours, 28 minutes. Total DVD2One time was 39 minutes. After getting a few more things out of the way, I'm going to do some comparisons.

    Out of curiosity, I googled Canopus's Procoder. It has a $499 USD MSRP.

    Hi Doc,

    A little closer inspection showed they had it on sale for $449. That's still a little pricey for a lot of folks. Appears to be more the tool for the pro or those lucky few with money to burn. I am neither.

    I've also been looking at Canobus Procoder 2 and I think I've found a better price. Of course you've got to be a teacher or student to get the deal.

    The Pro Coder 2 does sound very nice. The specs from the ebay link show "volume enhancement" which I find very interesting. I'm wondering if this would solve the low volume problem some DVD's have? I just might have to save my shekels and try to swing something using my 15 YO's student status.

    @Sophocles... ...BTW, I googled "DVD Rebuilder Q & A" and your new DVD-RB/CCE thread showed up in 9th place!!!

    It depends on the shearch criteria you listed if you just plug this "DVD-RB/CCE," into google is comes in first place out of 2.

    The problem with your sound has nothing to do with encoding or at least it shouldn't. Have you compared it to the original?

    The low volumn difficulty you're experiencing is probably the result of a low output signal from your DVD Player or the impedance/voltage output aren't matching whatever your pugging it into. What do you have it hooked too? Maybe we can figure it out between us.

    Yeah, 1st place!!! (I guess it's all in knowing what to search for.)

    The backup's sound is the same level as the source DVD's. The source DVD's sound is adequate on many, especially the newer releases, but others can require full volume just to be heard near-normal.

    I came across this thread on the ProCoder. It gives some insight into its workings.

    It's fairly well accepted that the Cinema Craft encoder is the best in the industry. The DVD-RB/CCE combination we discuss here uses the DVD Rebuilder freeware that is essentially a 1-click interface to the CCE engine. Most here use the less-expensive CCE Basic version which sells for $58.

    Thanks for the tip...I am currently using DVD Shrink v 3.2. I also have DVD X Copy v. 4.0.3.8

    Does Shrink/XCopy use an inferior process?

    In other words, if I want the best duplication possible, do I need to switch to the DVD-RB/CCE combination?

    Let's all vote for DVD-RB/CCE as the current best backup system.

    People, if you use a transcoder because it's easier and you don't mind some compromise in your video quality, go for it, it's your backup. If you want the best you can have then DVD-RB/CCE is it.

    I have installed and configured the necessary software as per the instructions in the DVD-RB tutorial:

    Afterwhich I installed the EclCCE (from http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46664) so the trial software could read the ECL (CCE settings) files created by DVD Rebuilder.

    When runnng DVD-RD in "One-Click" mode, I get the following error message:

    "ECL is not an ECL for CCE Basic Trial Version"

    Any assistance is greatly appreciated

    I did as you have instructed with the only difference being that the trial version I installed was:

    Cinema Craft Encoder Basic v2.67.01.19 (Trial)

    instead of:

    Cinema Craft Encoder SP (CCE) v2.67.00.23 Trial

    Is this differance the problem?

    Yes it is. The Basic trial won't encode more than 3 minutes per segment so you won't really be able to see the whole movie. Using the SP trial will get around that problem and is the reason you need to use ECLCCE.

    Limitation of Trial Version: Can't open ECL file

    That's where ECLCCE comes in. Copy the all the files from eclcce.zip to the folder CCE SP is installed in. Then run EclCCE.exe and select the CCE executable (cctsp.exe I think) and then you'll be able to use ECLCCE to run CCE after that. In DVD-RB you need to set the location of CCE SP (new) in the setup window to point to ECLCCE.exe and not cctsp.exe. That should fix your problem.
