Ok need some advice

Error code 16 - softmodded xbox

I have no access to another xbox, what is the best way to fix this?

I assume buy a modchip? which I am prepared to do.

Which one should I order, and what programs should I download?

any special instructions here or if I buy the chip and install it will my problem be fixed ?

Ok, guys and girls.. heres my problem.. (And seeing as how I dont have this "solding" or whatever, it should be easy for you all).

I have a normal Xbox. NORMAL, as in, I haveny messed with it or anything. Just played it with various games.

A couple days ago it began making an odd noise, it sounded like a spring trying to work and failing (TWING.. TWING.. TWING..) faintly but just loud enough to hear it if you stopped and listened. Anyway, I freaked out and thought maybe to give it a rest and I did. Turned it on the next day and it did it again when I tried to play halo 2, so I freaked again, turned it off, and pulled out th eplugs in the back so that it would reset (take me to the enter time and date screen), and it didnt. It displayed "Error. Contact customer support" and "07". I recognize its Error #07.

Now here you state what the problem is and how to fix it, but my problem being first its guess and check, and second there are no pictures or anything explaining it. You jsut naturally assume everyone know swhat it all is. So can anyone help me out with this? I want to fix it..

 

The 'Ding Ding' noise you heard are the plates/discs within the HDD knocking off each other. Basically your HDD has failed! You will need to replace it with a new one. You can use basically any PC HDD but you'll also need to either get\build an eeprom reader or install a modchip!

 

Youre joking, right? How the heck can that happen? I barely even move the darn thing, and Ive never transported it without padding the hell out of it! Preferably.. I barely knwow hat youre talking about eefram or whatever.. So I woudlnt be able to do that.. here i was just hoping that SPRINGY noise was the fan malfunctioning..

 

I assure you, that 'Noise' and an Error 7 mean death for the HDD! Make good use of the Afterdawn site, including the search and stickies to find out how to fix your machine.

What you need to do:

a) Work out how to build or buy an eeprom reader, read your eeprom and rebuild a new drive.

b) Install or get someone to install a Modchip, install new HDD and then format the drive with Slayers v2.7

If you are confused by any of what I have just said, use google.

 

ok so i just started reading this page and i need help my friends xbox sometimes freaks out and in the start up screen i get the xbox needs serviced mesage and its error code seven but the box has never been opened does this mean that we should crack it open and check the cables just to be sure because all that it needs is to be shut off and when it starts up again just to be tapped on the side and it works again. i dont really want to open up his box but its really old when we want to do anything with it should i open it?

 

Ouch, I kind ahad the same problem if you read jus tbefore you. Apparently my HDD is broken, but my friend says he may be able to crak open the HDD and realign the disks. Hes taken some computer insides classes and stuff.. and since it cant be repaired anyway, Im letting him have a whack at it.

Poor you though.. did yours make any funny noises too?

 

not funny noises just sat idle and the x-box screen with out the microsoft icon then you had to hit it then we heard the HD and DVD drive spin up

 

Heh well really to me that sounds liek somethigns loose and when you hit it orwhatever it goes right back into place, but IM not an expert on it..

 

im pretty sure that something is lose what i want to know if is it worth it for us to crack it open and fix it or just buy a 360 which he is going to do any way

 

Well, think of it this way.. since most games are compatable for 360 that are from XBOX, its really.. up to you. If you dont care, then opening it up and risking breaking something migh tbe ok because youll have the 360 anyway, but if it is working right now though you have to give it a whack or two.. then at least its still working and you have it as well as a 360..

I guess what Im saying is.. if you want to crack it open, either research it alot so you cant possible mess up, or get someone who is willing to do it for you or knows how. Like me.. mines permenantly broken though, so I dont mind letting my computer maintenance buddy have a whack at the insides.

just open it and make sure the ide and power cables for your hd and dvd drive are pushed in all the way, there is no reason for it to be not worth doing.

 

hey whats up guys i have a softmodded xbox that has an error 16 ( i accidently formatted my c drive which wiped it all out), ive heard that chipping my xbox will fix everything, if this is true what would be the best chip to use, and what would be the easiest install of that chip? prefferably i would like to save as much money as possible buying this too...i just want my xbox back its been a paperwieght for the last year. i was also thinking of upgrading to a 250 gb harddrive too, if i bought that could i just put ms dash onto that and then just use that hdd. would that get me around error 16?

 

IF AL YOU WANT TO DO IS PLAY BCKUP GAMES THEN A HYPER X CHIP OR AND XEUTER 2.6 CE I RECOMMEND THEM

 

Mainly i want to FIX my xbox with the chip if i can but i want to do everything i can with it, dvd2xbox,xbmc,linksboks,emulators,etc. i just cant get the xboxhdm to work for me, cuz i want to repare my hdd now instead of chipping to save money, im trying the unplug ide cable for error 11 which is supposed to unlock your hdd then plug into cpu ide but i cant get it the cd to boot right and it wont read my hdd so im gettn frustrated as hell

hows it goin people.. i just bought a mod xbox with avalaunch with a bunch of stuff on it ..anyways when i try to load XBMC it shows aFATAL ERROR and blablabla should i remove it or is their a way to fix it

 

just remove it and reinstall it again if u want it using auto installer deluxe and install other stuff wilst you are doing it

 

ok i'm bout to become crazy, i've been searching for solution for a long time, i have an xbox with error 16, and i have a blank hdd, i don´t have a friend to lend me his hdd and i don't want to solderize any thing to my xbox, it's softmodded with evox but i don't have the eeprom nor hdd password.
I tried using atapwd with my hdd installed on my pc but i get the message secondary master disk error before even reading the floppy.
The proble is i have to give the blank hdd in a week so i really need some help.
I tried booting the xbox with slayer auto installer 2.7 but nothing, just a little delay before the error screen, i can´t ftp, load games, dvd's, nothing.
I tried hotswapping but didn't work, and i have been reading tutorials making an xbox hdd from a blank hdd, but i cant partition it as required, so i'm stuck,
Maybe trying tu unlock the hdd with master password team assembly might help, but i cant get my pc to recognize the hdd.
please i coul really use some help.

 

ok a frined said he could lend me his hdd, but both his & my xbox are softmodded, and we don't want to phisically mess with the xbox (soldering), but i have 2 q's
will it solve error 16?
might his xbox crash or something?
please i need help as fast as posible
